  • Can any OzBargainers recommend this lawn mower? Mum's after an battery-powered mower and there are not a lot of options out there, and this one is rarely on special.

    • YouTube video on the EGO Lawn Mower here

a mate runs a lawnmowing business and uses this lawnmower. He says its the best battery one on the market

  • Reads like an ad. Luscombe and now O'Brien mustn't be paying you your worth as they stuffed up with Masters BIG TIME!!

  • +1

I have this mower. Very happy with it. I also have the whipper snipper and blower. One a single charge I usually get 2 sessions of mowing and using the whippering.
Had petrol mowers, had both of the Worx battery variants, this is by far the best one I've used. I'm eyeing off the chainsaw next. Read some very positive reviews on it.

  • +2

It contains a 56v motor with a power consumption of 600 watts. Battery bundled with the lawnmower is 4Ah.

56v * 4Ah = 224 watts total power. With a 600 watt motor, factoring in no power losses that's just under a 20 minute run time… More like 15 minutes after all the losses.

    Doesn't sound so great now..

    • -1

EGO give a run time of 45 mins
      http://egopowerplus.com.au/products/mower

      • +4

No, that's 'up to' 45 min run time. Maybe if you turn off all the extra features, and cut.. air?

The moment it hits any kind of thick or bushy grass the torque required will draw a substantial amount of current. Keep at that current and the battery will be down in no time.

        • -1

Sorry I missed the "up to" but people who actually have these are all saying great things about it including about the runtime. There are plenty of reviews here. @Bonsaichop have you used one?
I have sold one to a guy that has a lawn mowing business and he loves it. But I'm pretty sure he has spare batteries and the quick charger which are sold separately.

    • I have the Ryobi 18V dual 4A battery & it definitely lasts more than 20 minutes
      Cuts grass no problem

  • Could you give a link to where the Hitachi power tools are on Masters ebay? I couldn't find any

    • Sorry either could I, I thought I saw Hitachi Power Tools on it when I looked before posting. I'm not sure why but the ranges and brands available on eBay can change from time to time. I have removed Hitachi from the post.

No fuel, no oil, almost zero servicing (could do with a clean out of the grass underneath every now and again).

I have an electric mower but a cheaper/different make/model. Love it to bits. The charger is annoying since I have no real place to put it but then I remind myself I can charge it using my solar panels. Definately glad I took the step and bought one!

    • +1

I buy cheap mowers and have never had to service them or refill oil.
      (They keep being nicked.)

Just bought one. Thanks very much

    EGO 56V Lawn Mower

    Isn't EGO a dirty word ?

    • I talk like this 'cause I can back it up

      • +1

Don't you believe what you've seen or heard

    • +1

      First time I've ever given jv a + :-) Go Skyhooks !!

      • +1

If I did not have an EGO I would not be here tonight

  • +1

    I bought one too….thanks!

  • +1

Bought this one and the trimmer a bit more than 6 months ago and it's one of the best investments for my new house.

  • Far out this is a good buy as I want this friggen mower, didnt really want to buy it off ebay though…. what to do.

    • Why don't you want to buy on eBay?

      • +1

Had a thought, wanted to pay cash so I used credit card on paypal, all done, just got to pick it up :)

  • +2

Walk anywhere near these at Masters and they staff try to put the hard sell on you. Happened to me twice.
Either they're not moving well as expected or the staff wanted to chat me up. I go the former.

I would give this grass cutting Prius a second look but I love the smell of '2 stroke in the morning ' .

    • +2

Na im really sick of dealing with petrol crap, that and i broke the mixture jet off the carby on my trusty old 4 stroke Victor :/

      • new carb for Victor would set you back a whopping $55. A new battery for the grass chomping prius will… well lets say it will end up on the nature strip for hard rubbish collection.

I'll take the battery operated apparatus's when manufacturers begin guaranteeing the batts with life time warranty. ie at 20 years. until then they're fads.

        • Actually… funny you should say that. They are about $200-250 new and arguably should last at least 1000 recharges.

By that time they'd probably be alot cheaper if it does cark it. I love my electric mower.

  • can anyone recommend a push reel mower? My yard is not too big and I dont mind additional exercise.

  • +1

Thanks OP, Purchased. Now we have to wait for sunny Melbourne day…

  • Less than 5% off is now considered a bargain???
Ah I see the online store does have a better discount.

  • any one know if the Aldi 4 stroke Lawnmower is still around to buy??

    • I saw 4 the other day at my local store in victoria. Was going to get one until i read the online reviews

      • What reviews and which store I can do West and south East stores.

        That bad?

        • Read the reviews here

I saw them at Altona Gate in Victoria

        • @babecake: thanks, might have a look.

i guess two reviews is not to go off.

  • Just picked mine up from Masters Northlakes and got a bonus fast charger thrown in?? not complaining but did anyone else get one?

    • did you buy from their eBay store and click and collect?

    • Well done. No I didn't. Making me a bit jealous now.

    • Unless I'm mistaken fast chargers burn the battery out quicker/less charge

      • +1

        Maybe not

        http://engineering.stanford.edu/news/rapid-charging-draining-doesn’t-damage-lithium-ion-battery-electrodes-much-thought

    • Thanks ._. you make us feel ripped off :p

It appears it can be ordered with the mower as a free add-on.

      • only on Masters website I reckon, which you will miss out on the 20%

        • +1

It's in the catalogue as a bonus item so it's not just Masters Website.

HunterOfBargains20, since you're an employee, can you confirm if we ebayers are eligble for this?

  • Yes, when i picked it up the girl asked if i knew that it came with the bonus fast charger. It was written on their copy of the invoice in biro. I had no idea, but pretty happy i scored it.

    • Cool. Did you buy through ebay or the Master website? (You may have missed powergirl asking same question above).

Got mine today. After looking at reviews online I had high expectations. Well it exceeded those expectations. Battery supplied mowed both my lawns in about 20 mins, normally taking about 35 mins. Didn't work up a sweet. Was not dusty, though lawn was a little wet (which would have brought my old mower to it's knees). Also it was quite wide, so less laps of the lawn. And so quiet. Normally my children run away when I mow the lawn and cry due to the noise. This time they were right there playing in the box it came in next to me. I see why it has headlights, your not going to bother people with noise. My wife says it sounds like a vacuum cleaner. I really hope it give me years of service. Am so happy with it.

For those who are on the fence like me, I found over a 1000 reviews on home depot

  • Havent tried it yet, but its fully charged and ready to go, Looks awesome and is quite a large lawnmower.

I didnt get no fast charger.. :/ But I see it should have come with it.

  • +1

used mine today, works well, got about 30 mins before battery went in to the red, but i did have some very thick patches, enough to make the light flash on due to the load on the motor. I was using the mulching attachment and I have to say, it was just as good as my suzuki powered 2 stroke rover with a catcher.

happy as with it. get one ..NOW

  • +1

I bought and paid for click and collect. I asked for the fast charger ($109 value) to be thrown in when I collected with no issues. I also got a $20 gift card because they were running another deal where if you spend over $100 you get that. I am more than thrilled with the deal!

    • Damn! I tried when I picked up and they wouldn't throw in the bonus charger

      • I tried to be vague about buying off eBay. For all they knew it was masters online. They had big signs up about the charger around the mowing section anyway and so I don't understand why it would matter anyway. They should have given it to you.

        • +1

I just re-read the catalogue and it states "offer valid in store only". I think you got a generous store

        • @babecake:
Just an update…I managed to convince the store to throw in the battery charger. My husband hates the mower but I love it. Looks like I'll be mowing from now on

  • +1

Purchased on ebay, picked mine up from Northland yesterday and it came with the extra fast charger without asking for it

    • Same for me from West Gosford

  • +2

Mowed my lawn 3 times and still havent charged the battery.
