  • That is an awesome price but the Galaxy Note 4 DUAL SIM is available for $610.00 on ebay even without the 20% discount. I went with the Note 4 but I heard really good battery life for the Huawei 7 Mate.

    • +3

Can i get the link to note 4 dual sim?

      I assumed 2nd sim is 2G only?

      • Yes. There are no phones available as yet that allow you to have both sims connected to 3G/4g at the same time you just switch between them and one is put into 2g while one connects to 3G/4g

        • -5

you are wrong…here. both 4G! i dont have this..

          @erwinsie:

Don't think so …. At any given time, only one sim will be 4G and other will be limited to 2G.

          From the link you posted,

          Notes:

          1. Both SIM1 and SIM2 support 4G networks. You can choose the data service mode in the Settings; one SIM will be 4G while the other SIM can only use GSM networks.

          Dual sim phone users,
what are you guys planning when Telstra and Optus shut down their 2G networks in late 2016/early 2017

I'm dreading back to the days of lugging round 2 phones :(

        • +1

          @mightyhawks23:

I have one service on Vodafone who haven't announced a shutdown yet but also I don't receive A lot of calls on the numbers I use in a dual sim (I actually have 3 active services I need with me so carry an iPhone with my primary number and an android with the others) at the very least if there are no dual sims that can both be active on 4g at the same time it will be easy to switch between them rather than physically change SIM cards. You can always setup forwarding from one to the other though it isn't the ideal solution.

From reading around it seems the main issue is power as having two 4g connections active at the same time would kill even the best batteries we have at the moment.

        • im using note 4 dual sim, one is 4g. the other is 2g only.
the phone is like a note 4, only a bit laggy at times. and no roms available as well :(

        • Redmi note 2

        • @Japius:

yeah, saw Voda hasn't announced their 2G shutdown yet. Hopefully, it'll come after Telstra/Optus and give us another year till some active 3G dual sim phones come out on the market

he jacked up the price to $615 now. :( i've placed my order. If i receive it and everything is in good order, i'll post as a bargain.

I think 2nd sim is probably 2G only. I only want the second sim to receive calls as I activate a new sim card every month for credit. cheaper this way than buying phone on contract. Only spend about $10 - $15 a month with Telstra for 1.5 GB data and some free calls and unltd SMS.

    • that note 4 dual is not for australian market, right?
if so how is the frequencies compatibility with our providers?

    • A link to that note 4 would be good.

    • seller was t-dimension on ebay. had the nerve to cancel my order because the phone was faulty but jacks up the price to $615…….couldn't even never negative feedback on the person.

    • Damn missed out on that sold out now

  • Other thoughts on this device?

    • +21

I bought it in the last deal

My initial concerns were that the screen would be too big, but you do get used to it fairly quickly (and yes I can fit it in my jeans pocket).

The 360° fingerprint sensor works well enough most of the time, but does leave me placing my finger against it multiple times to get it to work. Also the fact that it's on the back can be annoying if my phone is lying flat on the table (just comparing it to the iPhone's one). But works fine when I'm taking out of my pocket, in my hand, etc.

The camera does leave something to be desired, it's by far not the worst phone camera I've used but it's not the best. If I had to critique it I'd say the colours can look a bit washed out sometimes.

And I'm not sure if it's only my device but there are a few bugs/niggles I'll mention:

      • Snapchat bug - when I said videos to iPhone users there is a "green" screen on the bottom (Android is fine)
      • Instagram bug - for some reason I can't record videos? (these 2 "bugs" are common I think, but something I feel like can be fixed very easily)
      • There is a "sliver" of micro-lag when transitioning between certain frames, I have no idea what is the cause (see here)
      • Music Player Lock Screen bug - there is a really random bug when you using any other music player apart from the stock one (Google Play, Spotify, etc), it appears on the lock screen music player, but once you interact with it (e.g. press play, skip) it defaults to the stock music player and plays music from there. There is no actual problems playing music from Google Play or anything, only when you start using the lock screen controls (see here)

And I may sound very critical, but yeh I just wanted to make sure these things were known before people pulled the trigger. All things considered I am so happy with this thing. The 4100mAh battery gets me through the day and then some (I'll probably come home anywhere between 10%-70% depending how much I've used it, yeh big range I know: which just shows the idle time is good too). It probably gets me around 6h screen on time I'd say? This is a mix of browsing, whatsapp, facebook, etc and either 4G or WiFi will always be on for me (such a blessing coming from my HTC One X which had like 1h screen on time).

There are some neat features like "QuickShot" which lets me take a photo from the locked screen state by double tapping volume down button (although the focus is kinda hard to get right but still kinda neat). The screen real estate is really pleasant to use, I wouldn't say I'm an old man in any regard but I still appreciate having larger text/photos :P One handed use is possible, but certainly not as easy to use as a 3.5" - 4.5" screen sized device. There is an option to put a button on the navigation bar which "pulls down the notification bar". I love this so much!! No more need to struggle to reach the top of the device and aids in one handed usage.

And in an age where microSD expansion is increasingly rare (and by that I mean Samsung didn't do it for their latest model), this sucker takes a 128GB bad boy.

There's that "new phone" feeling you get which lasts for a while and then goes away, while I don't have that anymore it's still such a joy to use this phone everyday :)

There's also a whole whirlpool thread on it if you feel like some more reading!

got mine from Dick Smith $449 back in Feb
wasn't expecting much but this phone is surprisingly nice to use - in fact LOVE it.

as Astro pointed out the battery life is just amazing and the UI is very smooth

I like the finger print scanner at the back. i like the fact that everytime I pick up the phone my index finger lands on the scanner and unlock the phone and ready to use within .2 sec even better than my iPhone 6+. Only time it is inconv is when the phone is sitting on the windscreen holder where I can't reach it but then I can just key the PIN in to unlock.

I wish Samsung Note 4 has this design. The way Samsung implement it is just plain stupid. If you use finger print you can't use PIN. why oh why?? Huawei and Apple allows both. sorry off topic :-)

Same height as the Note4 and 2mm shorter than my Iphone 6+ but wider than both by 2mm. so if you are into pheblet you will be right at home.

And it cover almost all the 4G band on offer here in Oz. 4G download speed is FAST !!

Camera is its only draw back. But then it is not price at >$1k

      • Nice review on your experience with the phone. Very helpful. Voted +1

people said the 3GB and 32GB model is much better..

  • +1

Haha, looks like an over-sized HTC One M7 rip-off. Specs look ok for the price, but it is HUGE!

  • This appears to presently be the cheapest Category 6 LTE/4G phone.

  • +3

    "ARSE ND" hee hee

  • Don't need one but thanks TA for getting another good deal

  • Read that coupon code as Arse End not ascend.

  • the Amber Gold version is currently $625 in mobileciti.

  • Thanks TA!!
Since there is a deal for the 32gb, I have done some research and found that Android Enjoyed store is doing it for $554.69 including shipping, any chance they could match or beat it?

    http://www.android-enjoyed.com/huawei-ascend-mate7-dual-32gb…

    • Android-enjoyed is selling grey import. The mobileciti one is Australian local stock and local warranty. I just cancel my order Huawei mate 7 from android-enjoyed this morning. They have some issue with the mate7 stock, and dont know when they have stock available. Hope this can help.

      • +1

        Thx jasojn8129.

also Au stock mate 7 Amber gold version come with genuine flip case and screen protector which some international don't come with additional accessories.

        • That is great. I placed my order this morning in mobileciti, hopefully you can ship it within 2 business working days.

        • I had a look at what's in the box from your website for the 32gb model.
          It stated the following.

Huawei Ascend Mate 7 (with built-in battery)
          Huawei Ascend Mate 7 charger
          Huawei USB Cable
          Huawei Headset
          Safety Information
          Quick Start Guide

        • @jason8129:

Thx for your order, we will try our best to dispatch your order today if not tomorrow will be the latest.

        • can i confirm that the amber gold version, has the genuine flip case and screen protector as it isnt mentioned in 'whats in your box' on the website… ?

Would like to share my experience on use of dual sim on my LG G4 D818.
Only 1 sim supported 4G LTE and 2nd sim only supported 2G when it was out from the box couple of months ago. Since the rollout of a firmware update last week, now both sims support 4G LTE.
I can only use either sim for data access at any point of time. Not sure if any phone can be used for accessing data through 2 sims at the same time.

    • +1

how would using data through 2 sims at the same time work? that's like having two DSL internet connections, one has to be the primary gateway unless you are doing some sort of routing.

    • Hi

Where did you get your LG G4 D818 … can i know which exact model?

With the updated firmware does that mean you can use sim1 for data on 4G and Sim2 for voice on 3G OR 4G, and not 2G.

      Cheers

    • So my understanding is now both sims support 4G/3G/2G so you can switch either one at a particular time for 4G data access. But at that particular time, one sim is 4G another is 2G. Correct? Previously sim one is 4G/3G/2G, sim 2 is 2G only. Correct? So to me the firmware upgrade adds flexibility, but not really let you put sim one 4G and sim two 3G.

  • Wow, the coupon code just keeps getting better

    • So as the deal.

  • Great phone and still enjoy using it everyday. Go with the gold amber version if budget allows. Battery life kills every phone out there, easily last me two days with heavy usage. Go for it if you are in need of a new phone with good quality and decent battery life.

  • Amber version with 32GB and 3gig ram is the way to go if you are going for this phone. This price is extremely tempting.

    • is 3gb ram much better than 2gb ram? is it worth the price difference?

      • yeah i'd go more ram. price is not that big difference.

  • Hmmm, any thoughts on this vs the LG G4 (apart from phone size)? Similar price for the 32gb version.

    • -1

      G4 blows this away

      • true. can't have it all though. G4 has industry leading camera. Huawei has long lasting battery.

        • I was in the same shoes a couple of months back. Was contemplating on the Mate vs the LG G3. The mate had everything I wanted but the camera was abit sub par. The LG phones have damn good specs on paper for their price.

In the end I bought a Note edge since the ebay sale brought it down to $650 lol

        • @krisspy:
          Nice. that's a good choice.
I really need dual sim phone so yeah Note 4 Dual Sim suited me. I am not willing to pay $1K for a phone. That's just crazy talk!

  • Extremely good device..

Received mine (64GB, 3GB RAM) as a corporate gift from Huawei, but have genuinely enjoyed using it as my daily driver (replaced my OnePlus One).

  • I placed an order for LG G4 yesterday from Kogan Ebay….anyone knwo if I can cancel the order? I would like to buy this one!

  • Does anyone know till when the offer is valid till?

  • +1

I would recommend the Silver LT-09 as it has Band 28 LTE (700MHZ) which is key for Telstra/Optus if you're in a metro area.

    The LT-10 Gold does not.

    • Can anyone verify this?

      • +1

Read the tech specs on their website or just google.

I own a LT-09 and avoided the LT-10 because of this.

Don't have any issues with 2GB RAM or 16GB onboard due to mSD expansion.

Was only $380 with TRS cashback back in April ($420 from DSE - no longer on sale).

        • Good pickup. I didn't realise that the Gold version is the 3gb version and silver is the 2gb version. Good to know.

  • +1

    Have I made a miscalculation:
    Huawei Ascend Mate7 GOLD 32gb

    PLUS

10% extra value deal on DSE Gift Cards

    Should be Around $575ish

Much better deal that above and better (3gig RAM) version of the phone.
Please let me know if I'm missing something!

    • +1

Edit: Much better deal. Didn't realise that the Gold was the 3gb version. Still better price and brick+mortar store.

      • +1

        Actually found a BETTER deal

        Huawei Acend Mate7 + Bonus B2 Watch $639

When purchased with the discounted Dick Smith gift cards, it is cheaper than the mobileciti deal, AND you get a free B2 Smartwatch.
        BOOM!

        • +1

Why not post this as a deal?? Do it m8 :)

        • +1

          @GeneralZod:
Bit busy at the moment, but if someone else wants to, go right ahead.

        • +2

          @Tragus: Done

        • @Tragus: i just did this deal. awesome find!

        • -1

          Hi Tragus

You are comparing the Mate 7 silver version right? My understanding you have to go coles to purchase Dicksmith gift card with extra 10% value, and come back to Dicksmith store using the gift you have purchase, also have read all the T&C.

We just simply offer you coupon code and pay $449 inc delivery anywhere within Australia. "Free B2 Smartwatch" you still paying additona $126 if count 10% value on the gift or $190 ($639 - $449)

        • @mobileciti: its the 32 GB gold version. I posted the deal as well, but if you could provide us with a similar deal, I'd buy one from you guys (Hate DSE and love the work you do on OzB). Otherwise it's similat and the watch retails for around 175 USD on Amazon.

  • Got an unlocked 2gb version for $450 six months ago with a $40 Vodafone sim included.

Good phone but its so huge that it bent pretty bad in a crowded taxi when I had too much in my pocket. I feel that smaller phones are not much at risk of this.

The screen is an inch bigger than I'd like, I bought it for the battery life which is fantastic but be prepared to have a sore thumb.

    • +1

Good phone but its so huge that it bent pretty bad

Awesome! It's just as good as the iPhone 6 then!

    • Yours is $40 sim with cap value in it? Mine is just a sim for $40 cap offer, no values in, I have to recharge to use it, so pretty much useless.

  • Thanks TA, ordered one and hopefully I can pick it up in store tomorrow.

    • Hi hailarious

Thx for your order, your order is ready to be pickup at Parramatta store

  • is it possible to turn up at the store and purchase this deal?

    • Sure can. Just left the store with 32GB gold version. They just ask you the code or show it on your phone.

      Showed them on my tablet.

      • Did you pay $585 ?

        • Yes. Paid $585.

        • @xoom:

          How are you finding it?

        • @Samantha93:

Going good so far. Just got it setup.

Things i liked not necessarily in order of preference.

          Screen is decent.
The finger print scanner/unlocker is crazy fast.
          can take sd card.
          Can do dual sim.
          Fm radio.
The included case works a treat.
the screen protector already done in factory. No bubbled install of screen protector.
          screen seems bright enough.

Pet peeve but not deal breaker.

Dual sim or sim and sd card. Why not both? (Theres a ghetto mod i read somewhere. Must be xda forums where they have the sd card and hacked up sim together in slot 2)
The UI takes a bit of getting use to as its slightly different to stock android or what im used to touch whiz on galaxy tab S.
No ir blaster. Again nice to have but cant have them all i guess.
non removable battery. Again cant have it all.

May update this once i get a day or two use with this phone.

  • My local Dick Smith has the VF one for $479.00 I think it was

    • it's 2GB/16GB black version.
