UE Boom/ Megaboom $139/ $219 Delivered @ Logitech Shop

930

First post - long time lurker. I hope this deal is good!
Cheapest I've seen the Boom since last year. $8 cheaper than Officeworks - however I haven't asked if they are able to price match. Most colours in stock, including black!

UE Megaboom $219 Delivered

Cheapest I've ever seen for the UE Megaboom, excellent price, considering how good the speakers are. For me, I would get the MegaBoom because it's an absolute steal.

Great post mate, been waiting for a good deal on one of these!

  • anyone got a megaboom? whats the bass like, i'm got a ue boom, not sure if its worth the upgrade

    • +2

The bass isn't like doof doof. More so deep underlying bass and the volume overall is much louder than the ue boom

  • +1

Which one is better. The ue boom, or the JBL charge 2?

    • +6

UE Boom…I've never heard the JBL, and never want to…#UEBoom4Lyf

    • -1

The JBL Xtreme destroys the UE Boom though

    • -3

The UE boom is a joke. I have no idea why people buy these things.
But dont take my word for it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXlkfpHZYzQ

      • Agreed. JBL Charge 2 or Charge 2 plus has better bass and better look to me. Just go to JB Hifi and listen for yourself, easy! I got a Creative Roar from Creative store shipped at $179 as I want an integrated mSD card player. Creative Roar sound is about the same as the Boom. The best (in the compact BT speaker range) to my ears is the Bose Soundlink Mini.

        • I also bought the roar. Its fantastic. It was 150 a while back which was a bargain and imo unbeatable at that price range.
I wouldnt say it sounds the same as the boom. Roar has great sounding balanced sound further enhanced by SBX tweaks if you have connected to your PC. The boom has no bass, literally 0 along with no notable features other than a waterproof body. Boom is outdated tech.

        • +1

Most people struggle to figure out where the sound is coming from with my black UE Boom because it is so compact and minimalist which I love. Personally I think the Charge looks ugly with the brash logo. UE Boom has much better battery life and is water resistant while Charge 2 has slightly better bottom end. All comes down to what you want from a portable speaker.

    • I researched both of these and tested them in store. From the reviews I read that the UE boom is a bit hardier (splash proof etc), has 3d sound and can go a bit louder, the Charge 2 has a better quality sound and more bass. When I tried them in store I much preferred the Charge 2, it sounded less like a toy speaker. The UE Boom is more popular though, and the JB Hifi guy was very biased and trashing the Charge 2.

      • I got the Charge 2 for $149 at DS.

Thanks for posting this! Been on the lookout for bluetooth speakers for a while - got the MegaBoom. Seems worth the extra cost over the Boom:
    * Waterproof
    * 5hrs more battery life
    * Better bluetooth distance
    * Better sound

  • I got the Megaboom during the last ebay sales. Have to say I am impressed but then I haven't owned wireless speakers that cost more than $50 previously.

You should be able to get price-matched at Officeworks because Logitechshop is owned and operated by Fluidtek which has a storefront in NSW and this deal offers free postage.

    • JB Hi-Fi just refused a price-match due to lack of brick and mortar store. Fluidtek front page says no logitechshop orders can be collected from Fluidtek store. Best JB could do is match $295 of DSE.
      Anyone else had any luck?

      • +4

Innocent question, if the best you're going for is a price match, why not just buy it from Logitechshop?

    • Managed to get it price matched at Officeworks but unfortunately the boss has her heart set on the purple one, which they dont stock.

  • +1

Fantastic price for the megaboom… I thought the $236 at Ebay tomorrow was going to be a purchase, but I'll get this instead!

  • Love my UE Booms.

  • +3

Same item and seller is also listed on eBay, so good opportunity to utilise your $50 eBay voucher from this previous deal if you jumped on it: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/204417

  • Got a megaboom, thanks OP.

  • Dumb question - does this pick up the radio direct?

Or would you need to be streaming it through your phone?

    • +1

Bluetooth Streaming and 3.5mm input jack only - no built in radio.

I got the UE Megaboom a couple of months ago from work. This is about 40% off, and a huge bargain.

Superb sound with no distortion, even at max volume. You can pair two together for true stereo. You can drop them in the pool and they will live to play another day. You can even carry it on a lanyard or mount it on a camera tripod.

  • Honestly would recommend the bose small spundlink devices. Quality and punch are amazing for their small size.

    • +1

I've heard both — UE Boom and Bose Soundlink. I agree that the Bose's sound quality is much better BUT decided to grab the UE in the end for the following reasons:

      • Longer battery life. Much much longer. And the best part is that you can charge the UE via the microusb port by using portable battery packs, giving it extended battery life on the go. That's not something you can get from Bose with its proprietary charging port.
      • It's water resistant
      • Bluetooth coverage / range is much better on the UE
      • You can pair up another UE Boom to achieve stereo mode (a factor during decision making but in the end didn't go for another pair lol)
      • Soundlink mini II has usb charging now. And increase in battery life from 7 to 10 hrs.

Still no usb on normal soundlink though. silly Bose.

I have UE boombox which it great but not having USB is a PITA.

  • Own a UEBoom and they are seriously sexy, sexy devices. Tempted to buy a Megaboom but I've found the small one owns outdoor occasions already.

  • Can get them on eBay for these prices too

  • Lou from unbox therapy did a great review on these. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBDjYzY_6-k

I'm extremly tempted by the megaboom

  • I ordered at 4:44, this afternoon, and it's already been shipped! Awesome stuff.

  • Awesome deal! Just ordered a megaboom even though I already have 4 other bluetooth speakers at home -_-

  • +2

Bought the UE Boom last year. Used it for everyday for 10 hours at work (so approx 2700 hours so far) and it still works great. Customers thought I was using a proper sound system and were surprised when the sound came from this little speaker haha.

  • How much is mega boom normally?

    • RRP is $349, recently Good Guys and Dick Smith have had them for $295.

  • Have a few UE Boom's they're decent speakers, got em for ~ $80 from DSE, could have been a pricing error though.

  • +1

    nice first post OP

I've got a Bose Soundlink Mini which I chose over the UE Boom because I'm a fiend for sound quality. Most of my friends have UE Boom's but the Bose clearly has better sound quality.

But one thing the UE Boom has got is versatility outdoors and ruggedness ie. basketball courts, beach, bbq.

Just bought a Megaboom in Black for Outdoors.

Hope this is the best price for a while!

    • Please let us know how you think the Megaboom compares to the Soundlink Mini and smaller boom?

      • +1

The Youtube channel 'clavinetjunkie' and his website http://www.oluvsgadgets.net allows you to compare high-quality recordings of both against each other. You'll need decent headphones.
Basically the Megaboom has a little more bass and a lot more volume compared to the smaller Boom.
The Soundlink Mini has a much clearer high-end and has a different overall 'sound'. So it depends what you're buying the speaker for; if you're going to listen mostly indoors and don't need it rugged the Bose is a great choice, if sound quality matters over all else, the Bose is probably also a better choice. The Megaboom is great for all it's advertised reasons, waterproof, decent sound, good battery plus all the extra app features, but for a different buyer to the Bose.

      • Just got the megaboom today.

        Overall impression - disappointed.

Does anyone know the logitech stores return policy? I'm going to email them.

It sounds almost the same at the UE Boom with slightly but not much more bass. Treble is clear but too prominent like the UE Boom. It gets to loud volumes but just isn't satisfying to listen to.

I think its role is really just for outdoors when you don't care about sound quality and want something 360 and loud. And you can chuck it around. Not sure it's even worth $219…feel like I could've gotten something with better sound quality.

I foresee the price continuing to drop.

        Ah well.

  • Can't see anything about the dimensions of the megaboom…

Can I safely have this in the shower (where it is getting wet, not just in the bathroom)?

In the description it says you might kill your battery?

    • Megabroom is water proof, so you should be ok. UE Boom is only water resistant.

Not going to ask why you want it in your shower.

      • I use my UE Boom (not mega) in the the shower all the time, and there hasn't been any problems with the unit, only my need for music while showering!

        • +2

Syncing your thrusts with Eric Prydz's Call on Me?

  • I forgot to ask one important question, does the megaboom have player controls like skip, play and volume???

    • +1

It would be controlled using your phone, it looks like theres only physical volume buttons

  • Thanks! got a megaboom.

  • thanks, got the purple. black is too mainstream

  • +3

    My Megaboom arrived today.
Wouldn't say I'm blown away by it. I haven't heard many bluetooth speakers, maybe I've been spoiled by the quality of my proper sound system.
Bass isn't amazing, but I don't know what I expect, in terms of bass, from something I can hold in my hand.
    Does go quite loud, though.
Left my SRS-X3 at work, so can't properly compare it to that.

One thing I instantly noticed and loved was the UE's volume control being in sync with my phone's. With the SRS-X3, volume control on the phone and speaker is independent, which I don't like.

    • id be interested to know your opinion on its sound compared to the srs x3. I'd assume the megaboom is definitely louder

    • I got my Megaboom too today.
My old Boom broke after pushing it way too hard and was about to drop money on a Boom at OW until I saw this.
I don't think the UE Boom range is targeted for heavy Bass reproduction. I'm pretty sure the SRS x3 and Bose Soundlink are just better designed to do that. However, I frequently used my Boom outside during camps and parties and I think that's where it truly excels. The 360 degree sound (I know it's not true 360 but it's close enough) is really great for that and the fact it goes super loud is useful too.
I think it's just a better overall bluetooth speaker that works decently in every situation. There are probably better speakers for specific uses, but a bluetooth speaker I think should go wherever you are.

    • Cant say im surprised. If you have a decent hifi and or have heard what modern bt speakers sound like you wouldnt choose the booms unless you absolutely need the water proofing.

Someone said in another post they havent even heard the jbl speakers yet still think the booms are the best and got up votes for it. Pure idiocy imo. At around the $220 price range that opens up many options for bluetooth speakers.

        http://gadgetmac.com/reviews/ultimate-ears-ue-megaboom-revieā€¦
^ few reviews comparing UE boom to JBL charge 2. They seem to convey the same message from most reviews that the UE megaboom is superior. They only recommend getting the JBL if the price of the megaboom is $300+

which speakers would you recommend for the $220 price?

        • +2

All BT speakers really should have aptx or aptx low latency codecs which offer fantastic SQ or the versatility of using the speaker for games and movies without noticeable lag. I would also consider the size of the speaker. Megaboom is massive yet still lacks the deep weighty bass, no aptx and is $300. That's poor value.

The booms are completely outclassed in SQ and features by other bt speakers. The only advantage they have is the ruggedness.

I think they're poor reviews to be honest.

Megaboom vs direct competitor JBL Xtreme. Pretty much sums up how much of a joke the boom line is:

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ScS7b_izq8k

          My picks:
          Soundsblaster Roar 1/2
          Denon Envaya Mini
          Bose soundlink mini 2
          Harmon Kardon Onyx 1/2
          JBL charge 2+
          JBL Xtreme
          sony srs-x33

  • +1

Well, I either got a faulty unit or the Megaboom is not quite as water-proof as Logitech claim.
Put mine in the sink, yesterday, for about 30 seconds and now it won't charge.

  • Anyone get a delay to their order? I ordered on Mon 24/8, eta to Vic was by Fri 28/8. Still not arrived today 31/8.

    • Update: got it on tuesday 1/9. Delay appears to be on Startrack's end.

got my UE MEgaboom today, didn't come with a charging cord, only with a power brick :( emailing them today…

    • LOL. This happened to me when I first bought my Megaboom. There's a little compartment at the bottom of the case when you open it, the cable should be there.

      • yeah found it… weird place to put them though…

    • I just had one arrive and your comment saved me from emailing - would never have thought to look there.
So thanks, even though people seem to be negging you.

      • This speaker is awesome. I hope you're as happy as I will be with the speaker.
