Upgrade contract with Vodafone - How much discount can I get?

Hi,

Been with Vodafone (3 before that) for more than 10 years. Have two connections, one on $95 including handset that has 6 months of contract to go, the second one has 3 months to go and is eligible for an upgrade.
I am planning to go on a $80 plan and maybe get an iPhone 6. But I am open to other options as well.

Has anyone got any experience in negotiating rates down a little with Vodafone? What should I expect and what are tricks I can use to negotiate?

I am happy to stay with Vodafone.

  • negotiating Vodafone

Two words that will never go together.

  • In so far as nowadays a basic $40 cap include virtually everything you might eat, would not say 12x40 be something you could manage alone, and be reason ably close to whatever desired flagship-fone.

      You been drinking…

      • How so?.. In-finite calls Limitless txt $3-per add 2gb & 90min int.
I recently checked. No one had cheaper.
/Optus temp deal ($50 8gb not sure on int. calls) cheap.
        Edit, so make this,
        (24x40)=phone $960. +new ability to change / move $40Combo.

Still, it might be down to what others may offer.

    • Only you know what you are trying to say…

Okay, accepted. Point was that $40 Prepay recharge / BYO, contrasts to $87-$90 restrictive contracts and considerable TCO.

*Because new plans. Add easy 20% saving, & generally NO surprises.

Quite possibly low relevance to a non budget light users. But, your penchant is flexibility, double datas and freebie bonuses then the alternative calculation is the way forward.

Yep, that makes it sooooooo much clearer.

^Well, tot cost of upgrade can be 2.1k [±], with a fab 4gb.
          <1.1k phone> +1
Plans not so appealing imho atm though.
          Cheer to you~

Quite possibly low relevance to a non budget light users.

    Key words:

    Priority Care
    Price Match Virgin

Source: used to work at Vodafone

    • when ur say priority, being on for 2 years contract will do or more than that?

      • +2

Just mention the phrase 'priority care' which is basically the retentions department

        • can we call for a pricematch when we are in middle of a contract..I'm currently on 50$ plan doens't get much 1gb and 500$ call+text (unlimited vodafone calls)

        • +1

@johnnybravoo0: nope because the contract is legally binding

        • So do I just ask to be connected to priority care? How much discount Vodafone will generally give to retain a long standing member?

Late last year price matched a Virgin deal that gave an extra 2gb/month over what Voda were offering.

      Two Words.. WONT WORK!

They won't generally do discounts anymore, because they have just launched their new unlimited plans.

If you are LUCKY.. you will get a 1-2 dollar discount.

At end of the day, Voda has been pretty competitive on price, so you have two choices

Stay with them and pay less than elsewhere
      or
      switch and pay more
(if you want to be on a 24m plan that is)

They know this, and thats why they won't discount any more.

Disclaimer: used to be associated with Vodafone, am no longer associated but the P-Care changes (as in no more discounts, they just best price vs Optus/Telstra came in when my association ended)

Also one more thing.. as has been the general rule for some time, Vodafone usually don't price match Virgin. A few months ago they had an unwritten policy with staff in stores that they could match a data offer if needed, now they won't because they offer Unlimited calls on ALL their plans and the same if not more data than Virgin

      • Sorry it will still work…I have friends still working at Vodafone from a store level to area management and FPR to retentions.

        • FPR system was overhauled some weeks ago (as it was being abused) It can only be used to resolve disputes now.
They are offering same or better value than their competitors, they don't offer credits.

My dad's best mate owns a dealer store in Melbourne and he was saying this morning that they put out a bulletin through Red Source (their internal communication/memo system) the day the new plans launched advising that there would be NO DISCOUNTING ON NEW PLANS, if customers want to churn and pay more, thats their choice.

        • And FPR is not a department, so not sure why you know some one working in that department

        • @jimbobaus:

…FPRs can be sent through two ways: area managers and sales support

What I'm trying to say is that I know someone who has work closely with credits applied (fpr) and retentions (PC)

And I can 100% guarantee that there is flexibility in getting discounts.

I've personally gotten $20+ in fees waived per month post the plans refresh.

I'm not here to have an argument with you. I'm giving OP my advice, whether you want to continue to argue is up to you.

Feel free to give your opinion and knowledge but don't involve me in it. Thanks

  • Thanks guys, its amazing how you guys go out of your ways to explain and on the way have some interesting, entertaining and constructive arguments. Good on you both ;-)
