Amaysim pay as you go on Optus locked prepaid phone?

Hi, I would like to know whether the Amaysim pay as you go prepaid would work on a Lumia 640 locked to Optus? Also, I have a friend who is thinking of the same phone (they have a Vodafone plan but have broken their phone) so would a Lumia 640 locked to vodafone prepaid work on a normal vodafone plan? (i.e. does the prepaid bit matter?).

Also, as someone who uses a moderate amount of data but not that much calls/text per month, would the Amaysim pay as you go (set to autorenew) with a 10GB 365 day expiry data pack be the best option?

Thanks

As far as I know, locking in Australia is now almost always just a 'network' lock. Nastier, carrier-specific locking is still common in some overseas markets, I believe.

Some evidence of a carrier-locking layer on some Telstra-branded gear (at least in the past) , with some people unable to use Aldi and other Telstra-reseller SIM cards in those devices until they were unlocked - assuming access to codes, by the likes of 'OzBargain's own' Bagman.

I'm unaware of anything more than a network lock being applied to any Optus (and Vodafone) devices.

  • I know this is late but wanted to give updated info for everyone as there are a lot of lies out there.

Yes I will confirm as of today 28 Dec 15 I bought an Optus Locked Lumia 640 from Dick Smith and Amaysim sims work in it.

I put my already activated AMAYSIM Sim card in it and it worked straight away no problems, tested calls and texts yes it works, and it even says Amaysim in the calls icon on the screen.

I had 5 different sales customer service people telling me no it would NOT work but it does.

For your peace of mind pester the sales person to allow a full refund if your sim fails, I did this.
