Family (Call/Data Share) Plans?

The family has a number of devices on various plans, and ideally I'd like to merge them all into a single family plan, but I am finding it hard to get information about these - for example, Virgins plan can only be bought in store and I can't even find out how much it costs from the website, their illustrative examples show sharing plans that cosy $30 or so added to a main plant $50 which is already more than I want to spend.

Current set-up

My phone: $10 month 3G plan iiNet, $165 calls, 200mb data
Wife's phone: $15 month 3G plan iiNet $650 calls, 1.5Gb data
IPad plan: $15 month 3G plan iiNet, 1Gb data
Daughter's plan: PAYG Amaysim, around $20 month

I get close to the 200Mb limit on my phone sometimes, but usually it is plenty because I am almost never out of wifi range and even when I am I usually have the iPad (and I never actually talk to anyone on the phone). The other limits are all more than enough.

I know I can get the 1Gb data plan for $10 from month from Amaysim, but I can't keep the iiNet plans without the iiNet MBB plan.

I can't bundle with home broadband unless it is with Telstra because I have cable and don't want to go back to ADSL.

4G is not so important because it destroys the battery life and for some reason I live and work in an Optus 4G dead zone.

  • What was your budget? You have a pretty good deal going at the moment even though they are across different providers.

    • Yeah, the grandfathered plans keep my overall price below the starting price of most of the data share plans that I've scoped out.

My $60 per month does four devices, but takes monitoring to avoid going over the limits, though I get text warnings and have set my own phone to cut out data if I get near.

Probably best to sit tight unless a really special deal turns up.
