Anybody up for a Band Specialised in Anime Songs?

I have a drummer on board now. So please don't hesitate if you're interested in this genre and you play guitar/bass or you are a vocalist. Cheers.

Greetings my fellow ozbargainers,

Not sure if this post is put in the correct category but this is the closest one I can find, so sorry if I misplaced it.

Recently I always feel a vibe rooted from my deep ego whispering for a band. A band that play, and only plays Japanese Anime Songs, at least for the moment I wrote this I feel like an Anime-only band. It may be subject to change once things are up, but hopefully it's not because we can't handle the style well.

A bit of things about myself:

My major role is keyboard, but I can switch to guitar or bass if necessary. I can play drums as well but since I'm sharing a flat with my mate it might not be a great idea to go for that path, since no matter what role you take a lot of exercise is inevitable, and an annoyed flatmate is a nightmare. I can sing a bit, although not too impressive. By the way I can also speak a bit of Japanese, so it shouldn't be of a problem if it turns out to be that I have to take the singer's role, which situation, to be honest, that I hope not to be in. What's more, I have 2 - 3 years of band experience and in one of those years I'm the organizer and head of the band. Which, unfortunately, might be the reason why I can play all the instruments to some extent, since I have to cover their asses up if one or two of them suddenly decided not showing up in a rehearsal session.

To potential teammates:

Currently I'm all alone therefore I'm looking for all possible team members for a normal band, which includes:

  • 1 or 2 of guitarists
  • 1 bassist
  • 1 drummer
  • 1 singer (SHOULD BE ABLE TO SPEAK JAPANESE OR AT LEAST WILLING TO READ ROMANIZED PRONUNCIATIONS)

And yes, all of the potential teammates should be living in the greater Melbourne metropolitan area. And they should be able to devote at least several hours every week for a rehearsal session. Moreover, they should be willing to contribute time practising the piece(s) to be rehearsed in their own time. Finally, they should be cool to split all rehearsal room booking bill among all teammates.

Frankly speaking, I'm looking for potential team members with at least a manageable skill on their instruments. However, fear not, since I'm also looking for newbies that are sociable and want to improve their skills throughout the period.

Feels like it? Then reach out to me.

To give you guys a bit of impression on the style of songs we'll play once things are up,

Don't say lazy from K-ON
Kimi no shiranai monogatari from Bakemonogatari
No game no life opening
Guren no Yumiya from Attack on Titans

Thanks a lot for bearing with me till now. Have a great day!

Hahaha this is funny, If I was younger I would join in the fun, I have a killer (self-evaluated) 80's male J-pop voice.

…but seriously, remove your personal details.

    • Oops I got your point. I'll remove them now. Thanks a lot for reminding me. Cheers.

      • If only OzBargain didn't save revisions. :P

Might want to ask someone higher up to remove it if you really care.

  • Loved playing the manga effect.. When manga was more adault rated content then kids stuff these days.

      Yo man.

To be honest there is not a lot of difference between guitars at low/mid range. They can't be too damn good and can't be too bad if you go for some popular picks.

Do you have any preference on the style of your guitar? Like Les Paul/ stratocaster/ telecaster?

Ibanez is a Japanese music instrument manufacturer and there are a lot of J-POP guitar cover videos on Youtube are performed on their rigs. But distributors seldom put Ibanez and other stuff together as a bundle. I assume you'll need to buy amp/bag/strap as well? Then it could end up to be pretty pricey.

Squire (Fender) and Epiphone (Gibson) all have value packs available, come with amp/bag/strap. And they are all pretty good at their price range.

Again, I have to reaffirm you that it all comes to your taste. I myself prefer Les Paul but their strings are hanged pretty high from the fingerboard, so it will not be a good choice (theoretically) if you prefer fast solos, because you have to apply more force to push the strings onto the fingerboard, and that (theoretically) will slow down your left hand. Hence people always say they are suitable for rhythm guitar but not for a lead soloist. But nevertheless, Slash from GNR uses Les Paul and on the other hand he is an awesome soloist. It's not like that if you'd want to become a soloist, you can't go for Les Paul or vice versa.

      Some popular picks:
Epiphone Les Paul Special II Pack
SQUIER PACK AFFINITY SERIES STRAT PACK BLACK WITH FRONTMAN 10 AMP
YAMAHA GIGMAKER 10 GUITAR PACK WITH PAC012 AND PATHFINDER 10

P.S. I have a Yamaha entry level bass and I have to say they offer the best bang for buck!

Also, stay away from a notorious brand called "Monterey". They usually can be seen in JB-Hifi and not even worth considering.

  • I have warehouse space in Tullamarine that you guys can use to practice for free. Not sure what hours you were looking at… pm me.

    • Hey, thank you so much for the kind offer!

Unfortunately most of our team members do not own cars yet so transportation could be a problem…

  • I would love to play Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari by supercell. I've also been playing Guren no Yumiya from Attack on Titans on guitar (lead / melody line). Recently I've been playing Youthful by 99RadioService from Chihayafuru (rhythm guitar + melody line). Couldn't find many band covering that…

Anyway I'm probably a bit too old for all these. Currently trying to secretly train my 11yo to be an anime pianist (she's learning Hikaru Nara from Shigatsu Wa Kimi No Uso at the moment).

    Keep us updated.
