Issues with United Airline Changing Flight

Hey all,

Just wondering if anything has booked a ticket with United Airlines (for US domestic travel) and had the flight time changed on them greatly with nothing they can do.

I booked the flight back in January 2015 for December 2015. Got an email last week advising that the flight had changed, its now 5 hours later so I land at 6:00pm instead of 1:00pm. Now, to be honest, not a huge issue, just need to reshuffle stuff around here and there, but what I am annoyed about that although they changed the flight, there is nothing I can do about it.

United advised in the email I could change my flight and use the original ticket cost as a credit towards a new flight. However, when I go to change the flight to pretty much the original flight time, they are wanting to charge $275 US/pp as a change of fare and I had a non-refundable ticket. The original ticket was $180 US/pp.

Has anyone else had this issue? Where you able to get United to change the ticket back to the desired time without a silly fee? Thanks

    Did you call them on just try to do it on line. Speaking to an operator at United might help.

    I've got a flight in October to the UK with etihad I booked early and chose the shortest stop overs which cost more at the time, now the cheeky sods keep changing the flight departure times already adding an extra 6 hours in total which were the same times as the cheaper flights.. Nothing I can do apart from buy a good book and a comfy cushion.

    We booked international and local flights with United this year.
    Our internal flight had the time changed and I rang and chose another flight that I'd already checked online for a more suitably timed flight.
    The operator assured me there was plenty of time to make the connection but I told her I just wasn't comfortable with the timing. Missing that flight would put us back a day.

    We had a few other hiccups which has never happened to us before.
    First our plane was delayed in Melbourne and eventually due to lack of parts in Aus totally cancelled.Was pretty manic changing everyone's flight but they agreed to send us to a hotel overnight for the following days flight.
    Our flight from Seattle to LAX was first downgraded to a smaller plane and I`d advice you to keep an eye on your booking.
    The morning of our flight home we received a text that the flight was cancelled so had to go to the airport to sort things. Not easy with hughe queues and low staffing levels.
    Eventually they paid for us to fly on Alaska but really we could have done without the last minute stress.
    My advice is definitely ring. She was a little hard to understand but very responsive and agreeable to give us what we wanted

  • Thanks everyone. Finally got a chance to call up and have a chat. They were really accommodating. So because I was going to be delayed by more than 2 hours, I was entitled to a refund, but I could only be claimed over the phone.
