Upgrading Acer Aspire V3-571?

Hi all,

Thinking of upgrading the RAM and to SSD on this laptop. What's the best site find compatible RAM and SSD for it? Also does it have 1x 4gb ram or 2x 2gb installed? Meaning I just need to buy extra one 4gb ram to upgrade to 8gb correct? Any limitation on size of SSD? What about processor? Is it easy to upgrade? Worth upgrading considering it's I3 already?

P/S How would I convert the old HDD to an external HDD too?

Many thanks!

    http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/Acer/as… this might help as a guide…..?

    Maximum memory: 16384MB
I don't know if it has 2x2gb modules or 1x4gb but a possibly similar model like this guys: http://community.acer.com/t5/2014-Archives/Aspire-V3-571-664… has 1x4gb module

It looks like you can grab any size for the SSD you want(the crucial page would like to sell you a 1tb :P)

a 2.5" to USB Enclosure can be found on ebay….. example: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-2-5-SATA-TO-USB-2-0-external-… $6.19 with free shipping…

    Also is it a plain aspire-v3-571 or is it a variation… e.g 9667, 6643 or g model.etc???

    • This is the exact model V3-571-32354G50MAKK. Could I still add a new 1600mhz RAM even though the existing one is 1333mhz?

        Faster is fine.

The processor will not be able to be upgraded.
Is there an easily removed door on the underside to inspect and see whether there is one DIMM or 2?

    • Judging from the post above, looks like it's just 1 RAM.

I could just choose any brand & speed I presume?

Yes, as long as the speed is faster or equal to the stick you are keeping. Even slower is probably OK, but the same or faster will always work.

  • KINGSTON OR PATRIOT?

  • I reckon you will see a substantial speed boost from and SSD. You could also potential remove the DVD and place a second drive in there. A sled to take its place is something like this:
    http://www.ebay.com/sch/Computer-Drive-Bay-Caddies/158816/bn…

Note they come in two different thicknesses. Get the same thickness as the DVD you remove, and make sure your new drive is skinny enough to fit.

    • Thanks, but I better keep the DVD drive. I do play some DVD from work sometimes

      • I got a $20 external one to use the once in a blue moon I need it.

        • I already bought an enclosure SATA to USB3.0 to turn the old HDD into a portable one, probably more useful to me that way. Great suggestion though. Just curious, apart from HDD, what else can the caddy hold?

        • @Droid11:
Hmmm. It has a SATA interface, so pretty much just a disk I think. I don't know of any other peripherals except HDD and optical drives that use sata.

        • @mskeggs: Hi mate started a new thread on transferring data https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/207440

You seem to know your PC stuff. Would appreciate your input in the new thread, especially in clarifying what the other users have told me. Cheers!
