Ubro M1 5.0" - $119 USD from GearBest

Hey all,

Anyone know of this? It was posted by frankyman here.

I'm basically looking for a 5.0" China phone with dual-SIM which is better than the phone I am replacing (Galaxy S3 i9305, LTE/4G version). The Lenovo K3 Note and the newly announced RedMi Note look popular but I do not want a 5.5" phone.

Comparing specs, it seems to be very similar, except that the Galaxy S3 has a higher clock speed of 0.1GHz. Purely looking at this (i.e. specs and only specs), could you say that the Galaxy S3 should have slightly better performance?

Would appreciate any feedback. Thanks all!

Never heard of Ubro, and I follow Chinese phones quite a bit.
Stick to Ulephone, Umi, Jiayu, Gionee, Elephone, LeTV, Meizu, OnePlus, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, ZTE, Huwaei (may have missed a few :P )
The last ones generally tend to be on the more expensive side, though.

Mediatek processors perform quite well these days, I'd say the MT6753 would definitely be a better performer than the one in the Galaxy S3. Not sure of the ROM the Ubro runs, it could mean a huge difference. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 (with the Helios X10 aka MT6795) would definitely blow it out of the water! Just for comparison, the HTC One M9+ has the same insides, with a gig of RAM more than the Xiaomi.

    • Amongst the ones you have mentioned, the only ones I had previously heard of were Huawei, Oppo, OnePlus, Xiaomi, Meizu.

I've only come to learn about Ulefone, Elephone, Jiayu, Vivo recently (mostly through deals from here) and because of that I don't know if I personally perceive them to be much better brands LOL.

Here's a review of the Ubro M1 which is actually quite positive, which is why I have been tempted.

You're saying the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 would blow this Ubro out of the water?

      • I generally get my dosage of chinese phone news over at gizchina.
From what I understand, the MT6752 is pretty solid chip. It's being replaced by the MT6753, which is slightly under powered, yet supports world wide LTE or something.
I believe the Helios X10 or the MT6795 is currently the best Mediatek chip on the market, the Umbro contains more of a mid range 6735 which is quite decent as well. The Xiaomi definitely is a better specced phone with a well known and maintained ROM (MIUI).

I personally would stick to the brands I mentioned earlier, simply because they are more established, have better ROMs and would support them for longer.

Check out these phones as well:
Ulephone Be touch, Be Touch 2
        Elephone P7000, P8000
        LeTV X600
        Meizu M2 Note

        • Oh I do too and I didn't even realise the link I provided was gizMOchina.

All the phones you've mentioned I've seen/checked out before except for the LeTV X600. Looks like a HTC!
The Be Touch 2 really captivated me briefly, as did Elephone. Ultimately though, I didn't want a 5.5" and all of them are 5.5". I'm starting to feel 5" is becoming a niche screen size…

Pretty good it appears. Same Sony imx214 as my 1+1 $400 but provides OIS.
Latest 5.1 Android and scratch proof Gorilla Glass thats unique in USD120.
    0.69cm. microSDXC. ++compass barometer hall. 192 kHz / 24 bit! Sweet.

    I imagine combo of 1300 MHz clock android 51 +720p does reasonably w/ 2350mAh?

Minor, but pretty pointed, quibble: 3G900 rural + limited 1.5 year shelf life gsm850 for voice switch off. Typical city2600,1800 zero low band 4g.

    • Understood everything you said except last line.
Which networks are being turned off again? GSM850? And this one only supports 3G900? Is that what you're saying?
What does the "city2600,1800 zero low band 4g" mean?

      • Yes, 2G shutdown next December where dual 4G become critical, against obsolete 4g/2g 3g/2g, defunct 2g. I'll need to toggle lte isps.
Xiaomi is clearer, defines unambiguously sim1:4g3g2g sim2:4g3g2g.

And i meant to suggest, frequncy wise this is as good as a city-based phone, if you discount yes3g. No 3g850 no 4g850vodafone & no 4g800 Europe coverages redeem it, according to devicespecifications. Unfortunately.

If there were more user reviews then i would notneed to conclude ubro have either a poor quality control or are work in progress.

  • man talk about funny names

    hey bro! u bro!

specs sound fine to me esp for $150 but mtk? but if you say this mtk is ok…

  • ok looking closer

it seems have good audio specs on paper 24/192 but skeptical

but here's a killer: Battery Capacity (mAh): 2350mAh Built-in Bttery

vs twice that on the mlais

    • Mtk have apparently come a long way.
I'm not concerned about the battery life because the S3 I'm using has a little bit less, and this screen is still 720p (same as S3) - i.e. less battery hungry than 1080p.

The mlais was good. That was where I found the comment for this phone. Didn't like the Mlais because of the look though (and thickness)

  • deal maker for me is whether sim#2 may use ¾G. experience ??

    • Ah that won't bother me at all. I just want the 2nd sim to have active standby as well.

  • Still waiting on mine - ordered the white model on August 2nd along with some headphones and a power bank. Imagine my surprise when the package arrived on Thursday without the phone… :'(
Sent them a ticket, they said it is backordered and they expect stock in 7-10 days. It's for the missus to replace an old Galaxy S II which is luckily still barely working.
I know there are faster/more well known brands but she won't be playing games, and she can barely hold my Nexus 5 - a 5.5" won't really work for her.
I asked if there is any black models in stock and will swap to that if there is - fingers crossed!

Let me know how it is! Have been indecisive and I still haven't ordered.

I've installed a new screen protector and am in the process of re-installing a different custom ROM on my S3 to see if it might make me "happy enough" with it (for the timebeing). Replacing the screen protector made it feel so much better though!
