Tempted. Can I swap the 32G microsd with a 64G or even the 128G?

    • No. The one you're looking for is the Media Drive

      • +6

The following review indicates the answer is yes……

        http://au.pcmag.com/sandisk-connected-flash-drive/484/review…

"The Wireless Flash Drive comes with a 32GB microSDHC card in the built-in card slot, and there's a 16GB version also available. However, because the storage card is removable, you also have the option of swapping out the card for another, or upgrading yourself to a bigger card further down the road."

      • I have one myself bought from COTD ( goddamnit should've waited for this one!!! ) and I swapped my 16GB microSD with a 32GB.

I haven't tried anything larger than 32GB but I assume if 32GB works then anything else would as well.

    • looks like you can. here's what i found off their website.

        @bcdk and bean_counter

nope I think that must mean the media drive or something, as this one does not. even says so on the official website

    • +3

from the links bean_counter and bcdk posted, it would appear that they have fixed the issue with using a 64GB microsd card with the 16GB/32GB version of this.

Although it looks like you have to make it a non-standard partition by following the instructions in the knowledge article bcdk posted. Your microsd card will not be compatible with other devices until you reformat it again.

"*Wireless Flash drives that ship with 16GB or 32GB do not support the exFAT file system"
also, you can't put files larger then 4gb

    • +2

i can confirm that there is a removable microsd and you can swape them with another

    • Yes - Check out this review video @ 08:00 mins. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAb10VK5yXo

Always happy to share my pRon movies.
By "my" I mean stuff I have downloaded. Not those I have been in.

      • That's why I have a webserver and NAS ;)

  • +1

Unfortunately looks this one (SDWS2-032G-Q57) does NOT have Microsd card slot. The other one (SDWS2-032G-E57) does.
    Could OP comment on this?

  • +1 for the coupon code.

  • +3

10/10 would jump on this if the storage was expandable. Any way we can get confirmation from a shoppingexpress rep?

    • +7

      I've PM'd SE.

      • thanks TA. You sir are a gift that keeps on giving.

    • Agree. Would be good if can swap a 128Gb microSD card into it.

    • Found this website: http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/8075/kw/wfd
You would have to format the card in a different way

      • +1

Damn, have to reformat those SDXC card into FAT32 format, which means if I cannot store video files larger than 4G into it :(

This link is the official support with FAQ for the Sandisk connect wireless flash drive

the model number and link to how to expand the memory is there.

      Cheers

  • This is USB 2 isnt it?

    • +4

Yes, USB 2.0. But the idea is that you use it WIRELESSLY.

      • Thanks for the confirmation. So how long would it take to load 30gb via usb 2? Can't remeber coz haven't used usb 2 for a while now.

  • +3

I have the cheaper 16GB version… can confirm storage is expandable via a microSD slot on the side. If your card is 64GB or higher you need to format them as per link above.(16/32 versions do not support exFAT).
    hope that helps!

  • No, doesnt help

  • +1

Sounded very interesting at firt as I though it might allow you to install more apps etc on a small ipad. Just seems like it is for streaming so I am not sure how different it is from a nas already connected to the device with WiFi.

Still sounds useful and is obviously more portable.

    • watch the youtube linked by pro for more details on how to use it

    • +1

I am not sure how different it is from a nas already connected to the device with WiFi

      1. It is a NAS… so if you already have one NAS at home, you don't need a second one.

      2. It has batteries, so you can use it when you are out and about.

I have a similar device and we use it in the car when we go on long trips. Load it up with music and music. Stream the music to the car stereo and the movies to one or two iPods or Tablets.

  • +2

I have the 64gb media drive. and I put another a 32gb sd (not mirco) loaded full of movies for when I went overseas for holiday. Before I left I tested streaming it to 2 devices simultaneously. Worked flawlessly. During the 3 week holidays, never used it. Too busy doing stuff. Great idea though.

I agree with turkz1. You sir, are a gift that keeps on giving.
Ordered one. Thanks also for all the effort you put in to our Ozb community.

Its 2 year old technology, but still better than whats out that atm. Just got one!

  • +2

Nearly jumped on this until i read through the comments..
was excited to have a wireless storage device with removable microsd.

but usb2.0 and FAT32 (no files larger 4gb), are both dealbreakers for me.
ie.. cant stream high def movies, and takes forever to copy over usb!!

    • +1

Nothing stopping you from putting the micro sd card in your usb 3 card reader to load up with stuff and then put it back in this device.

  • Is this'always on'? Like if it is plugged into my car, and I want to update my music, can I do that from my computer while the car is outside the window? Would be mega handy for the lazy me.

    • unfortunately it doesn't seem like you can write to it wirelessly.

      • In one of the youtube reviews, it seems like you can. The guy was uploading photos from his iphone

    • i thought the wifi is off when usb is plugged in?

  • +1

I noticed this only has the micorsd card and no internal memory included, by the way my wireless 4G wifi modem which also has a microsd card slot does have this function and more so I pass but thanks TA.

    • +1

Which model would this be, as I am looking for 3G-4G wifi modem? Cheers

  • Bought it. Thanks TA.

  • +5

I have the 64gb version. Works great. Definitely recommended you guys purchase one.

    To answer a few questions:
1: a newer version of this model came out recently which looks cooler but does not let you access the memory card so for me that was a deal breaker
2: both models have USB 2 but who cares as I tend to just dump a bunch of TV shows and movies for my holidays then use for the month. I would not be using it to store 100's of tiny files (although it was sluggish when transferring lots of comic book files)
3: you can copy things into it (and reverse) wirelessly via the SanDisc app
4: VLC works great with it
5: you can even do things like have comic book files stored on it be opened and read by your cbr reader
6: the cap on the older model (this one on sale) is a slide down one as opposed to the remove (and lose) one the newer model seems to have

      Great summation. Thank you.

    • COMICS!! I had not even thought of that. I love reading them on my iPad but storage has always been an issue. Great idea

I would take a good look at the Kingston Mobileite G2

About $52.00 AUD delivered to Sydney.

Just done alot of research on wireless card readers and found this one coming out on top for performance, features, battery life, companion app etc. I also prefer the SD Card (which can be expanded to 126GB) without having a big USB drive sticking out the side. It also has an ethernet connection so you can use it as a wifi media hub at home/work. Yes it's a few bucks more but well worth it. Just used it on a flight to NY with my kids, streaming movies to both ipads and my phone. Worked perfectly.

    • +2

haha, its funny cause i came to the same conclusion and ordered this exact same item.
its $50aud delivered i believe. using 28 degrees.

    • I have the MediaShare and find it very useful.

      • Yeah I'd put the Verbatim Mediashare a close second. Actually bought both and kept the Kingston :p

    • Can you copy over photos to this Kingston from your iPhone?

    • +1

Actually you made me changed my mind totally.
I almost purchase this Sandisk 32gb from SE but halted it after reading your reference.

      You have a point.
I can use this kingston MobileiteG2 like a Swiss multi-tool
Share the wi-fi hotspot directly after plugging the Ethernet

You can also use it for PowerBank if you're going out , Not as powerful as Xiao Mi Powerbank, but will do.
And you can use it for streaming media as well while at it (if you have Flash Drive in your Key ring, I have it as a computer technician)
You can also have more customized Hard drive for instance like PNY / Sandisk USB 3.0 & support up to 2 TB which is very flexible

But the size is the only issue, for people who have saggy pants. And you have to buy your own hard drive / SD card. But i don't see this as an issue as people already "full" with SD card up their pocket because TA who have been doing alot of bargain in SD card and USB flash drive recently in 2 month.

Sounds like a few people are still keen.
