Looking at purchasing an alternative to the mac mini for home theatre use.
Alternate for Mac Mini for Home Theatre
Comments
Yes I know, I have 5 Apple TV's.
Just looking at hooking up a mini pc to the 64" TV to play games and to move the hard drive (full of videos) to it when apple tv starts to misbehave and won't stream.
Lately it has been a real pain, spending a lot of time restarting apple tv, home sharing, macs etc.
just wanted a cheap alternative play with.Sort of like this http://www.mwave.com.au/product/mwave-intel-everyday-nuc-min… ?
Your username and fact you have 5 ATVs, and are moving your collection to this Mini/HTbox, means Mac Mini is your only choice.
Yes I know, it pains me, but i/m somewhat broke at the moment and have to look at alternatives…….:(
Well there's the NUC's/Gigabyte Brix or if you don't need the power of a real CPU, you could get one of the cheap Atom powered Chinese miniPC's.
If you have a NAS/dedicated storage hub, get a Raspberry pi + OSMC. Works great plays all media and even supports HDMI-CEC so you can use your TV's remote to control it. Uses little power too.
Home theatre use is a broad definition, to be honest.
I don't think that Mac Mini is the perfect candidate in terms of price/value. If you purchase movies on iTunes Store, Apple TV is your choice.
