Gumtree no longer allowing you to repost ads for free!!

I recieved an automated email from Gumtree telling me my ad is about to expire.

I logged on to my account and clicked the "repost" button only to be told that a free repost is only available for one ad per account!

Has anyone else expirienced this?

Just change the add a little a post new.

  • I can't even post any ads at all since 2 weeks ago

I didn't even know there was a repost button. I normally just create a new ad and copy paste the info into it from the old one and delete the old one.

    • I've tried this in the past but my ads always get deleted

That's because they detect the same content and title in the new post. You need to be creative with wordplay and change the content a little, try chopping and changing parts of the description or move some paragraphs around.

This is what happens when Gumtree is owned by eBay. They deliberately make it a shoddy website to force users to turn to eBay, which then drives revenue through the final value fee.

^This. If you don't modify the title and content, either your ad gets deleted, or your ad goes straight to page >10, wherever that is.

On another note, if you're listing multiple items with different prices in one ad, put the price as "negotiable" (instead of putting the price of the lowest item), otherwise some clown can report your ad as non-complying and it will be deleted, no questions asked.

Does one need to alter the photographs too?

  • Keep all the posting details in txt file, and pictures in one folder. That way you can copy paste and reposting

it's probably Ebay trying to recoup some cash since the Paypal split.

  • I have two. They used to allow re-post but no change. I thought they said that they now allow editing as well as free re-post, but I might not have tried this. Have had same ads running for ages, dunno whether I'll be in for a shock when it comes time to re-post?

You have to find the small print option for free re-post, and avoid the obvious non-free bump option.
