  • How much is it normally ?

    • it has always been free, and always will be free.

  • Let's Encrypt is getting super close to release now.. It's already in a working state. Definitely a better option for most people!

    • let's encrypt is VERY limited and wont work for a lot of people/businesses.

Eh? It's designed to work with the majority of web hosts. It's identical to the item you linked - a domain validated, single domain, SSL cert, and will work for as many people/businesses as yours would..

        • I'm still yet to see where the root CA is on letsencrypt, and if it's their own then they'll have limited support until (if) people update their trust.

        • @yaleman: https://letsencrypt.org/2015/06/04/isrg-ca-certs.html

Let’s Encrypt will issue certificates to subscribers from its intermediate CAs, allowing us to keep our root CA safely offline. IdenTrust will cross-sign our intermediates. This will allow our end certificates to be accepted by all major browsers while we propagate our own root.

        • @ryang:

Yes, and if they aren't in people's trust stores (they aren't in my systems on OS X or windows) then they won't be trusted without users/administrators explicitly adding them. I expect we'll probably manually add them to the systems that require them in my organisation if a valid business case is raised, but I see no reason to trust these CA's without more vetting.

        • @yaleman: cross signing removes that requirement. All certs will be valid from day 1 without any user intervention.

        • @ryang:

bleh, I couldn't find the identrust root in any of the data I looked at because it isn't called that.. of course that'd be too easy. :S

You can get a free certificate with the same benefits as this one for a year (with free renewal) from StartSSL. I can't see how this is a "bargain".

and i am sure there is something better then StartSSL, does that then make it not a bargin?

      • +1

If you find something better than StartSSL, post it as a bargain. As this is not (90 days free compared to 365 days free), it's not a bargain. Also, StartSSL doesn't qualify to be posted because it's always free, just like this "bargain" as well.
