  • Not bad, at least $40-$50 cheaper than sourcing it locally.

  • Cheaper than when I bought my 840 evo :O

  • +4

Arghhh… must… not… buy… 2 of these in a striped RAID array would really go hammer and tongs!

    • Why RAID?

    • Better just get a pcie ssd

      • +1

Not doable on an ITX board ;)

Realistically, it doesn't change real world performance much unless you're doing high end video editing etc.

Shave a few seconds of GTA 5 load times though :P

  • $20 cheaper than that Shopping Square deal!

  • +1

pretty sure ssd's are just majorly dropping in price over the next few weeks. still nice, thanks

    • +1

Any reason as to why they are dropping?

      • newer models coming out, newer, better technology. pretty sure they just announced a 2tb 850 evo too.

      • I think there is new tech on the horizon.

      • +1

M.2 PCi-E is where it's at. SSD on using SATA 3.0 is old technology. :p

  • +1

Is that the cheapest price in the whole wide world?

    Maybe we can ask someone….

    • Samsung is getting it cheaper. So is Amazon. Entire United States also get free delivery.

  • +5

I might wait a little to see if TA can beat/match deal.

  • +5

If shopping express / tightarse are reading…
Any chance we can get a price beat/ price match, please? :)
    {edit: beaten by a minute!}

  • +8

    Come on Tightarse!!!

    ….ok that sounds wrong…

  • Great price. I'd wager no one in Oz will match that price though. I bought mine last week from Futu on eBay. Was going to buy from shopping express (nothing personal, they are GREAT) for cheaper but wanted the $50 eBay voucher. So far the SSD is fine. I'm using it as a second laptop drive for data.

    • +1

Pretty sure shopping express and futu are the same company.

      • +2

Yeah that is what I heard too. Anyone able to confirm this?

        • I think that's right. My recent order from Futu came in a Shopping Express-branded carton.

        • @andrew1879: Wow. My orders haven't. Go figure. They got some extra cash out of me but I'm hoping to find something decent with my eBay voucher.

  • Would it be insane to put one of these in an external enclosure?

    • +3

somewhat insane yes… although if you can find a USB3.1 or Thunderbolt enclosure it's not THAT crazy

      • +1

Hmm, good idea. It seems like USB3.1 is a better technology to bet on than Thunderbolt atm (since Apple is phasing out the latter). I'll be travelling out of a backpack the next 2 years, so a light and performant external drive with no moving parts would be awesome

        • +1

If you're travelling, something like this might be a good idea (integrates a few things)

          http://www.amazon.com/UNITEK-SATA6G-Enclosure-Supported-adap…

        • @kudoz83: Nice! A USB 3.1 version of that would be perfect.

        • Really Thunderbolt is going?? That was one of their good ideas. Suprized it never really caught on in the PC world, esp since it was an Intel idea. Such a shame.

    • not really. if you can afford it

    • +1

I have one and like it. Works great for me, but make sure to get a UASP compatible or thunderbolt enclosure. This is the one I am using:

      Inateck hdd enclousre

No trim support over USB, but I haven't noticed any drop in performance.

  • +2

    No mSATA love again

  • Great bargain! I just need it for my laptops. 250GB is not enough for software population

  • Damn that's (profanity) cheap.. THE cheapest in ozb history? I will remember this day.

  • Would this be alright in a MacBook Pro (Year 2009 I think)?

    • I had the 1TB version in a 2009 model and it was a great over the old HD. Just make sure you enable trim if its running Yosemite.

  • +1

    edit ignore

  • Strange on the website it says 5 year warranty, yet in the warranty disclosure statement it says 36 months parts and labour for that model. I wonder what is the correct period.

It also doesnt explicitly say global warranty.

    • Can anyone chime in on this? Global warranty is pretty important.

edit: did some more snooping myself, based on this they are NOT covered globally.

      • Yeah, Samsung wont cover you under their warranty if you bought it from the US. You will have to send it back to Amazon for repair/replacement.

Never had any issue with Amazon regarding warranty until recently: They are rufusing to homor the 7-year warranty on my Seasonic PSU. After arguing a lot, they "exceptionally" accepted to refund me but kept refusing to repair/replace it.
I didnt pay much for it back then, so I am not getting much back from it.

        • How much does it cost to send an item back to Amazon? Thanks Pielo

        • @KaTst3R:

They will refund you whatever you pay for postage back to them too.

        • @Pielo:

Hmm so technically, it is still fully covered…thanks for the information.

        • @KaTst3R:

Well I need a PSU, cannot use the computer without one. I wanted them to send me a replacement unit and when I receive it, send the faulty one back within 7 days.

PCCG were really nice and let me purchase a DDR3 kit before sending my faulty kit back. When it was replaced, they offered me to send the kit I purchased for a refund.

  • +1

pretty sure i just bought a 250gb for the same price.. #fullofregret

  • Any realife difference in performance between recent pcbyte 240gb sandisk ssd plus and this deal?

    • +2

No. You're talking about milliseconds of performance which isn't that big of a deal. The reliability aspect, however, can be debated here as Samsung 850 drives don't fail as much as Sandisk ones. I think has a lot to do with the controllers and/or chips they use.

  • The exchange rate should be 155.73 USD = 212.765 AUD according to XE Currency Converter.

    • no one gets XE rates. No retailer at least…

even from a bank it will be higher.

      • How about 28 degrees MasterCard?

        • Don't have one, but heard a lot on here talk about them. Just glanced at their website and just says no trans fees + no conversion fees. Pretty sure that doesn't mean XE rates, they can still give themselves a larger spread, just no extra fees. I could be wrong though….

        • All mastercards uses the exchange rate on the mastercard website as reference. The only difference between banks is whether the institution charges a transaction fee and how much.

  • If these deals keep coming it might be time to start thinking about swapping out my 120gb Crucial M4!

  • Oh been looking to switch out the HDD in my 2010 iMac.
Anyone know if this would work well?

    • yes, it would be fine aside from the SATAII connection bottlenecking your optimal performance speeds for read/write

  • IS warranty on this global? Was waiting for it to drop below $200… but this might just do

    • no, USA only.

  • Not a bad price
Got mine for $212.73 during the ebay 20% last month
    $300 @ Futu - 20% ($60) = $240
Futu sent a tax invoice for $300 which I claimed TRS back $27.27 for a final cost of $212.73 :D
