  • Brilliant remote for the price,

  • Is this definitely only store specific?

Call 13 ALDI and they might be able to see if it is available in other stores or not.

I have found in my experience what the aldi call centre tell you regarding stock, has no relation to actual stock levels in store.

Bummer, I've only used them once and that is the impression I got too. Hope they can manage to get a close to real time stock level query system going :-)

  • Excellent remote.

The newer model 350 gets down to about $22 from good ol DSE - they look the same but ithink this one only can control 4 devices, the 350 can do 8

    • +2

That's what the packaging said about the 650 when I bought it a few years back, then they upgraded the software client and all of a sudden I can control 8 devices, more activities (don't remember the exact number) with 40 steps per activity up from 5 (could be more, I just never went over 40).

    • @Dick's for $25.96 + postage

Just wait for a code - they pop up once in a blue moon or so….and C&C

I haven't used this model, but I swear by Logitech's universal remotes. Currently use two 650's in different rooms and can't imagine ever needing another remote.

The very few issues I've ever come across were more to do with the limitations of the devices being controlled rather than the remote themselves.

It's worth noting that not everyone is able or willing to spend the time to set up, learn and tweak the universal remote. I've come across some relatively intelligent people who just use it to turn on the right devices with the required input settings but then use the native remotes to control the playback etc, which doesn't make sense to me, as you're basically adding another remote to your existing collection rather than replacing it.

I doubt that you can go wrong at this price though.

    • Sounds like exactly what I did a few years ago when we got a universal remote. Worked fine for the broken TV one which we were replacing and the VCR. Then we got a HDD DVD player and just used the native remote for that. Then we got a new TV and just have a universal remote lying around now that does nothing haha.

Yes, it does require a bit of patience and dedication. The 650 even managed to replace the best remote I've ever used - the Tivo remote, and I thought it could not be done.

You'll find that Logitech uses a different system than most other universal remotes - they rely on a highly comprehensive database of devices and include even obscure or no-longer existing manufacturers, so chances are that if you'd selected the HDD DVD player model it would have worked with a Logitech remote out of the box or with some minor tweaking.

  • Bought this very same model four years ago, excellent remote, have updated through a continuum of media products over the years. Highly recommend at the price .. :-) .. !!

Is there a way that I can check if it supports my crappy "Luxam" TV? My last universal remote (Phillips) didn't work.

Unfortunately my cheap Chinese air conditioner isn't on the list. I have the Harmony 650 and use it for all other appliances.

        • +1

Well u can always use the learning remote funtion? Use ur old remote n send those IR signals to the harmony. Least i could do it on my Harmony 700. U need to still have the original remote in order to do this

        • +1

@AzNDuDe: yeah that's the problem. The old remote died and the company stopped making those remotes.

      • Cheers drwau.

        My device isn't supported apparently.
