Japan Ski & Travel Costs - How DO I NOT Get Rogered?

Hi All,

My wife & I are dragging our two 9 and 13-year-old kids to Japan for a ski holiday early April 2016. I have booked the Jetstar fares ($338 pp return - SWEET!), so after landing at Narita, we have an open-ended itinerary at this point. Thinking of doing the Central Alps (Nagano / Hakuba area), rather than Niseko in the north - I did Niseko once years ago and I doubt the Missus will go for it! So mainland Japan it is. I'd really appreciate any hard-core experts on the region edumercating me on how to get things sorted there - transfers/accom/ski lift passes etc - the whole shebang, without getting properly bent over in costs while I'm there - seems to fluctuate a lot!

Any ideas would be well appreciated. Only there for 9 days, so fast transport etc might be best.

Thanks SO Much,
UniQualz.

Anyway, March in Tokyo will not be able to ski anymore. It is the cherry blossom season. Only Hokkaido will still be able to ski in March.

  • Wow how did you get those flights so cheap? I'm looking at doing similar trip maybe in mid Feb. Flights seem to be that price one way?

    • There was a Jetstar sale on last week to Japan. I'm in Brisbane, but bought 4 return flights from Cairns to Tokyo = $1352 all-in (ie $338 pp return). I have 4 free Bne - Cairns return flights to use, so I'll use those to get to Cairns and have a Nth Qld one-week holiday before we ski in Japan. My Japan flight dates were 6 April - 16 April 2016. Bit naughty in that the kids will miss the first week back of school, but I'll be fine! Pretty sweet deal, though I'll get done over whilst I'm in Japan I'm sure!

This may not be helpful to you this time but I'll post anyway. I just found out that the Jetstar price match guarantee (competitor's price less 10%) works on Asian based Jetstar subsidiaries. I used it to get tickets from Sapporo to Narita in December, price matching Vanilla Air at about $90. The Jetstar price was about $400 .. :-( .. !!

    • Brilliant. Thanks mate!
