OP, you might want to add $30 Optus prepaid SIM starter kit for $5 after spending $30 on grocery's in your Title too.

    • +2

Won't fit, even if I remove the Sorbent Toilet Paper. :(

I guess I could get rid of the M&M's too… what do the people want?!

      • +2

maybe drop the weight's for M&M's and the Toilet Paper after Sorbent and put Optus $30 SIM $5* and explain the * in the description :)

    • Can you use the $30 credit for Google Playstore purchases?

    • +1

Can you use these for data only?

  • Thanks for the post GI.
The $59 4g pocket WiFi looks reasonable value compared with the ones on the Telstra web site. Does anyone know if it is a cheaper/inferior model? Also, has anyone had experience getting one of these unlocked? I'm hoping to use my $30 Telstra sims and then possibly switching to Vodafone once I run out.

    • I have the Optus e5377 4g modem, it was unlocked.
If the same model, then it can be unlocked, if it's noit already unlocked.

Ahhh, the iconic Connoisseur ice cream.

    • Anyone know what this style of marketing is called - where you constantly flip between half and full price like Connoisseur and Cadbury do?

      • +1

Promotional pricing, or more specifically high/low pricing.

        • +1

It's insanely irritating when you run out of X product and have to wait for that 1/2 price sale to kick in.

      • Conn is rarely Half Price - maybe like 4-6 weeks a year. Goes 25-40% off a fair bit though.

        • +1

Maybe at one particular chain, but with Coles, IGA & Woolworths having the lower prices at different times, my feeling is it's half price at least a quarter of the time.

Also I see it regularly 50% off - a search for Connoisseur on OzB shows many 50% off times, plus the current prices online at Woolworths and Coles are $9.69 and $10.66 respectively (or are online prices usually higher than in store?)

          @Janko:

Gotta say though, the Connoisseur ice cream is the only type I buy and feel is worth every dollar. Just makes it near impossible to walk past when I see it on special. The Murray River Salted Caramel is amazing, and the Belgium Chocolate and Honey Macadamia flavours aren't far behind.

          Thanks for posting OP.

        • @Janko: I don't frequent IGA but it is not half price much of the time at all at Coles and Woolies. I think this is the third time this year (without checking, could be wrong on this).

Groceries are higher priced online. I suspect that Coles and Woolies much prefer people to be in-store as it's easier to manipulate people into handing over more money.

        • +5

I think they have been increasing the full price. Every time i pay "half price", it feels more than previous time

        • @Diji1: yeah, I guess the whole point of these specials is to get people passing through the store to pick up other full priced goods. I definitely don't - I just grab the ice cream.

    Sorbent Toilet Tissue 8 Pack

If you compare the old pack to the new you will notice they have reduced the width approx. 1cm

and if you buy the 20 Value pack at woolworths you get 170 sheets vs 180 per roll

also the quality is so variable at the moment I find.

    • This is 8 x 180 sheets. Works out to be 22.3c/100 sheets.

      • +2

Yes price is fine, but pick up the old pack and new pack (many stores have them mixed together) and check dimensions width reduced from 11cm to 10cm if I recall?

Also recently last few months quality between batches (The Hypo one) varies significantly. It is toilet paper it shouldn't be difficult to keep it consistent and buying a brand name product that is what you sort of expect.

  • Thanks for sharing!
    Really like the layout!

These telco starter pack specials are awesome.. I've not paid more than $5 per month on my phone nearly all year now.

    • +2

      Can you please explain

      • +1

Either activated afresh. Or savvily doing U-turns using negligible cost $2-$1 sims (like @coles ending tomorrow ones) for same/diff carrier.
        stockpile-n-port out.

  • +1

stockpile starter packs when on promo and just change carriers each month.

    • Excuse my ignorance, but you have to change number too, huh?

      • +1

No you can port your number across :) Optus sims have an expiration date though

        • Don't all SIMs have an expiration date? Telsta's do.

        • vodafone sims don't. I'm currently using one from 2012

        • +1

          OoOow, thanks!

    • Do you think you could just use the credit towards an existing number? Cos it looks like a hella cheap way to get $30 credit for 5 bucks + free shopping.

  • How much data can u get in the $30 optus sim card for $5? Would it beat something like the revent amaysim deals on tetms of gb/$

  • Yay half price footy franks

  • hmm, not sure if the salmon is worth it even at half price.

full price seems to be as much if not more than fresh?!

  • This time, coles has limited these 5$ sim to one per customer.

    • This time, coles has limited these 5$ sim to one per customer.

      How do they check ?

  • Thanks a lot! Needed most of these things, and was able to duck in early to get a good icecream.

  • What convoluted method do we use to pick up the starter pack this time?

Does it have to be in the one transaction or do you get a voucher at the bottom of the docket and can get the pack from another Coles later on?

    • No voucher - purchase in the same transaction and the discount is applied when you select payment method. I went through the checkout next to the service desk to get mine.

So the limit is more "one per transaction" rather than "one per customer". They're not tracking it like Woolies did with the EDR card.

      • Thanks for that. So you do have to purchase in the same transaction.

        • Yuppers. Luckily the lady at the service desk knew what she was doing. She saw my horrified look when it scanned for the full price and said "Don't worry, it'll apply the discount when I select the payment method." And it did. :)

All stocked up now on mobile data (sim expiry was April 2016), $1 Snickers and 2 for $2 John West Tuna, yaaaaay!

        • @Nomic:

"Don't worry, it'll apply the discount when I select the payment method." And it did. :)

That's right. I remember now. I had to wait 10 minutes because firstly the staff didn't even know what sim pack to look for and then didn't know what to do when it scanned at $30. They didn't even know it was on special even though it is in the catalogue.

Another store had it advertised and knew what I was after but didn't have any. She said they never get much stock of special lines(!) They won't do a raincheck either.

        • @Frig: I tend to grab the catalogue, head to the service desk and ask what the expiry date is on their sims. If I get a decent reply then I can go grab my stuff and the service desk peeps are already primed that I'm on my way.

  • For the Optus $30 Recharge can you use it to top up an existing pre-paid card ? or does it only work with the specific new sim ?

    • The Optus $30/sim is limited to the Optus $30 sim, yeah its that limited.
Probably alright value in having few voice calls up to six months.

      • Great for data - $5 for 1.5GB. Just spotted that this deal is still available until 25/08! Go! Go! Go!
