Booked Air Asia Flights Then Found Same Flight Cheaper

Hi all,

Booked some international flights a couple hours after friends, I paid $950 for the flights to Phuket with Air Asia however my friends only paid $580 for the exact same flight.

Decided to do another check again a couple days later and found they had the same flight advertised at the original $580 price again.

Called Air Asia and spoke to two different CSR who pretty much told me "tough luck" and was directed to their online complaints process if I wanted to escalate.

Have done that but am yet to hear a reply after 3 weeks.

Anyone had similar experience? Or can recommend best course of action or is it a case of there being nothing I can do about it?

That just happened to me with etihad, booked on their site a month ago only to find the same flights on their site a few days ago $150 cheaper. Some you win and some you lose as the price could have always gone up.

    • Good point, I guess the reverse situation of our predicament wouldn't fly with us, ie if the airline called asking for more money since ticket prices went up.

      Thanks mate.

or is it a case of there being nothing I can do about it?

It depends on the class of ticket you booked.

If its not refundable, then its not refundable. Airlines aren't like David Jones or Myer.

Rule is you pay what you are preapred to pay.

If you worry that someone else got a cheaper flight or free upgrade etc frankly you shouldn't ever fly as its never going to be pleasant.

More than willing to accept that, just thought would give it a go considering the amount.

      It is a non-refundable.

      Thanks.

How did you pay for your flights? My 28 degrees credit card has price protection. So if any item I buy drops with 6 months after purchase they will refund me the difference. I've made one claim in the past and it was successful. Not sure if it applies to flights though

    • Might be onto something, I didn't use my 28 degrees card or another that has price protection but maybe something to consider in the future. Cheers.

You should always read any insurance document yourself. Relying on word of mouth advice is fraught with danger.

From the 28 degrees MC insurance PDF

Cash or its equivalent (including gift vouchers, traveller’s cheques, tickets, postal orders and other negotiable instruments)
        Not covered

        Note "tickets'

Also to get the price protection offered by 28 degrees, can cost you, if you don't pay off your balance BEFORE they issue you with your end of month account. Something you need to be very disciplined about.

Not paying off your credit card balance in full every month is a OzBargain crime!

@melaco: Never said that. To save paying this fee I believe you neeed to pay it off BEFORE getting your statement, which is different from paying off before the balance due (after statement issued)

IF that's not correct maybe you can advise

        • @RockyRaccoon: yes you are correct regarding the price protection fee.

  • Yeah I learnt this. If u search a specific date a few times, that price will never drop until you purchase or clear your cookies. I've checked flights for weeks with no change and then again immediately after booking to find they dropped a few hundred.

    • I assume what happened in this case was that since there was 9 of us booking flights, constantly refreshing etc it increased price to match demand.

  • I understand some flight booking agencies offer a difference returned if flights get cheaper after booking - it's one of the big ones but I don't remember which one (if anyone knows feel free to reply
