    Why is this 18+…

    Ooh

    • Opps sorry - I'm a Newbe.
I was trying to say more that 18 of them at the store. I have corrected.

      • Twas a joke

  • saw this today

    24 hour Bunnings in WA?

  • Looks like it's in the catalogue but it doesn't state that it's LED which seems like a weird advertising decision.

  • Everyday price.

    • Not sure on that one

The staff at my local Bunnings indicated it was a promotionional item. I had to order mine in from another larger store.

      Great bargain though

  • Pay $5 more and get a 60 led solar sensor instead. No power bill and no electrician.

    • with 160lm…

      • i'm not sure. i only have 100 led that state 600lm - 700lm. got two of them for $103.

    • That sounds good. Where did you get them from please?

      • EBay. Wait for a 10% or 20% voucher.

    • +3

No power bill and no electrician.

      And no light output.

      Awesome suggestion.

      • There must be some light. More than 5000 items sold and counting.

      • Can you explain what you mean? I am genuinely interested in an outdoor security light that I can install myself.

        • Search solar sensor 60 led and 100 led on ebay.

      • Sorry question was directed at pmupsinep:

        And no light output.

        Awesome suggestion.

        • pmupsinep may have misunderstood my post. i write "Pay $5 more and get a 60 led solar sensor instead. No power bill and no electrician." these led lights are diy solar motion sensor security lights. so there is no power bills to pay and no electrician needed for installation.

@whooah1979: I assume there are batteries in it then? Otherwise how to power it up at night when no solar power from the sun? Powered by moonlight?

        • @wtfnodeal: so the neg means no batteries in it? Otherwise my search from Kogan has the wrong specs? https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/solar-motion-sensor-led-light/

    • Saw these solar senor lights at Reject Shop for $55 lol

Glad I didn't buy then as I though they were too expensive for such simple light and sensor.

  • +1

    1600 lumens
    Thats blinding at night!

    • never really understood that adding 2 bright lights = a brighter light.
I've got 4x LED downlights which supposedly output 1000lm each, but it doesn't feel like the room has 4000lm brightness….

      • lumen perception by human eye is not linear but logarithmic, not dissimilar to SPL (sound volume).

especially so when the lights are adjacent to one another i.e. you don't get depth of field or other highlighting features to assist.

for arguments sake, you might need to double the luminosity to notice something thats 'just brighter', etc etc

I installed one a couple of weeks back. Great light for an LED, not to glary.Went back and bought a couple more!!

They are 10W globes with a kelvin rating of about 5500K, the light is diffused well so it's not to "spotty". Also as with LED's it instant on, unlike the warm up CFL (which are so retro)

The light has ceramic lamp holders rather than the crappy plastic ones.

I have installed quite a few Par 38 lights over the years and all together I was suprised by the quailty of this product given its 29.99. I'll have to wait to see how long the globes last……………………

Didn't post it as I couldn't find it in the catalogue or online at the time.

Got mine from Port Maquarie- around a month ago, then a couple more two weeks ago.

  • This is a great deal. In comparison, I had just bought a single light sensor from Lighting Illusions for $75. Can't really compare apples to apples as that model is 12W/1050 lumen and IP54 rated, whereas this deal is 2x10W/1600 lumen and IP44.. but it's good enough (will be under eaves). Thanks OP!

I'm at the Port Melbourne, Vic store. Their stock is still on a pellet. And might not be unloaded for some time.

    Oh and the sku: 4351696

    • +2

"Their stock is still on a pellet."

That's one hell of a balancing act.

      • Where there's a will…

  • Anyone saw this deal in other Bunnings? Thanks? I have bought a few sets with the normal environmental unfriendly bulbs. I have had half of the sensors broken after a few months, but the LED bulbs would make this price worth it.

    • Just bought some from Bunnings at Cessnock NSW, looks like it's nation wide.

    • Did you mount them where they get no direct sunlight?

      • Did you mount them where they get no direct sunlight?

These lights will even work in the dark!!

When there is sunlight, you don't need any artificial light.

        • The point is that the sensors don't last very long if you allow direct sunlight to hit the sensor. This could explain why your sensors break after a few months. Do you see? You're welcome!

  • +1

Anyone know what the power draw of the sensor is? I just bought one that uses 4w when the lights are off. Seems like a lot of wasted power to me.

  • Grabbed this at Notting Hill Melbourne. There were heaps in the store. It was at the front of an isle as a promotion. Installed and working well.

  • +1

Bought one but disappointed in the cold 5700K colour temperature. Very harsh light and doesn't go well with the warm colour lighting elsewhere in the garden and house. Wish there was option for warm white. :(

    • Would love a warm white too..
Much softer light for the garden..

  • Great find thanks mate!

Has anyone replaced their old sensor lights with these ones without an electrician? Is it easy enough to do yourself as long as you shut off the power at the meter box?

    • +3

It's 3 wires inside… Not that I would encourage anyone other than a qualified electrician to do any electrical work… But for your own educational benefit here's an article about standard Australian electrical wiring information including the colour of the wires: https://www.accesscomms.com.au/Reference/powerplug.htm

There's plenty of stock in the Hawthorn, VIC store.

I was told that this is a promo item. Once they're sold out they're unlikely to get more.

    • cool thanks. Will pick one up tomorrow from Hawthorn.

Could you retro-fit the LED lamps into an existing fitting that currently has the original incandescent 150W lamps?

  • Got a couple this morning from Caroline Springs (Vic) Bunnings, there were plenty in stock. Thanks OP!

  • I bought these just for the globes. Tried them in an existing fitting and discovered they don't work. There is no sensor on the existing fitting, so that can't be the problem.

    • Oh that's a bit of a concern. I wonder if there's a voltage transformer in the fitting. If anyone has physical access to the LED light. Can you see if there is a voltage rating?

      • On the Globe itself it says "ARLEC FLFD38 10W 240VAC.50Hz DAYLIGHT PAR38"

        • I was wondering the same. By those specs it should be fine. It would also be safer if your existing light sockets were ceramic.

        • Then the light should just work. If it's provided the right voltage and power (amperage). It should just work…

    • I've used the bulbs elsewhere and they're fine, just a standard edison screw fitting.

Here is the one above my kitchen sink, this is it turned on. Using my phone to measure, the 15W CFL I had up there put out around 40 LUX, this thing blasts out near 250, almost too bright, yet to decide.

      • "I've used the bulbs elsewhere and they're fine, just a standard edison screw fitting."

Really? You've used large outdoor security lights above your kitchen sink. I'm not surprised they would be too bright, their designed for outdoors. Are you really sure this is what you used?

        • I didn't install the whole thing, just used one of the bulbs in an existing fitting as pictured. It's only 10W, just happens to be rather brighter than I was expecting it to be. I've got other LED bulbs of varying wattages but none of them put light out like this thing.

Are you really sure this is what you used?

Did you click either of the images I provided? Compare what's in the fitting in the first image with what's shown in the OP's image.

        • @foobar:

"Did you click either of the images I provided?"

Yes, both in fact. But I still couldn't imagine that you have a couple 14-15cm security light globes in your kitchen. I was mainly asking again because I could not get enough perspective from the wood strips to confirm the approximate diameter of the globe.

        • @jdr:

It only just fit and was a bit of a hassle to screw in but works a treat, yet to decide what to do with the 2nd bulb. There's another fitting the same in my stairwell and the CFL has gone very yellow and dull over time so that could be where the second one ends up.

There's no reason these bulbs can't be used in any ES fitting so long as there's room to fit it. The purpose of my reply was to let those wondering if they could use them elsewhere that they can should they wish to.

Not sure why PKM couldn't get them to work, only reasons I can think of is dud bulbs or they weren't screwed in all the way.

        • @foobar: FYI I bought two sets and tried 3 of the new Globes and none worked. After reading your comment I went back and tried them a second time, this time screwing them in as tight as I could. Still no result. It's got me stumped :-(

        • @PKM:
Try cleaning up the terminals a bit. LED lights seem to be more effected by a poor connection, not working at all whereas the incandescents will still function, the connection improving as more power as drawn.

        • @PKM:

It's not impossible the bulbs are duds but it does seem unlikely they'd all be crook.

Have you got a lamp or some other easily accessible option to try them in? I've since tried my 2nd bulb in a completely different location and it also works fine. The stairwell where I'd like to use it is a real mongrel to access, need to play ladder gymnastics so I just used the easiest to access ES location that could accommodate the bulb.

Because of the sharply tapered shape, if where you're trying to use it has a ceramic cowl it might be hitting that before seating properly, have had this once before and it had me baffled for a minute or three.

        • @pkm: Often the centre contact in PAR38 lamp holders can be set back too far for the tolerance needed for the bulb to make contact. Bending the pin forward a few mm may help (make sure it isn't live!).

A good way to check if connections are making it is to place a piece of blutack on the bulb's contact and see if it becomes depressed when you screw it into the fitting.

  • Bunnings sell/sold Click branded Par38 LED bulbs for $10.

    • Quite a long time ago according to when I asked them. I got a couple, probably in 2012 but never found them again.

  • Someone pls post the item number so its easier to ask if they have stock…marsden pk bunnings doesnt stock them.

The bulbs create a lot of light, but it doesn't throw as far as the incandescents. I'd say it would be good for small yards.

Its about 7m to the edge of the driveway.
    150w incandescent
    10w LED

Don't have to worry about missing out at Moorabbin. I counted 24 boxes, each with 6 cartons inside

    • Thanks for posting the photos. Quite a big difference in light but a huge difference in power. Is that two bulbs in each case?

I guess you need to pick the situation where you use them.

      • Nah just the one. It'd be an interesting test to see if it extends the range. Its not quite as bad as it looks from the photos, you can still make out the car, but the light certainly doesn't reach infront of it to the street. I would say the range is about 5m, and would work best at a high angle.

  • Purchased 2 from Bunnings Lidcombe 2 days ago, had plenty of stock. Installed last night, replacing the 150W halogen flood light, the brightness is adequate. Looking forward to the energy savings.
The colour (temperature) is a little harsh, but not a major issue. Plastic seems a bit flimsy but hopefully it lasts. Would recommend for the price.

  • I've got a silly question. So the it lights on daytime as well because of the sensor?

    • +1

I assume that you are asking whether the light comes on in the daytime if the sensor is triggered? The answer is generally no. There should be an adjustment knob where you set the light level where the sensor considers it daytime and does not switch the light on when the movement sensor is triggered.

  • Just went to Marsden Park NSW and could not find them anywhere. The sales girls said they have never seen them. :(

  • Plenty seen at both Joondalup (near registers) and Clarkson (back of the store) in WA.

  • Bought two. Said It must be installed by a liscenced electrician. Can I install by myself?
