Statutory Warranty ($20 Baby Product)

hi all,
we purchase a houndini stop strap from a baby retailer.
after 13 months of the purchase date, the strap had already broken.
We want to try to claim a Stat. warranty has anyone tried to use this argument successfully? I wouldn't mind buying another one but @ 20$ if a bit pricey.

  Tried that argument with a hair straightener, it didn't work at all. The device was also around 13months old.

  Is it worth your time for $20?
