Prepaid SIM for America

I'm traveling to the U.S. Shortly and want to know some feedback ot experiences you've had with whichever carrier. Personally, I will use my phone mainly for data and want at least 5gb. though not sure if purchasing here or abroad is the best. Opinions please? :)

  • i bought two from sim corner.com (i think) and it was very good. It used the t mobile network and had unlimited calls, text and data for $40. You get 2 or 3gb at 4g speeds and then it slows, but even then the speed is fine. Most aussie phones don't have the right band so you will only get the slower speed anyway

  • I used AT&T when I was last there. They are pretty much Telstra. T-Mobile is like Optus.

    I ordered a Sim from http://www.ebay.com.au/usr/midtown_girl?_trksid=p2057872.m27…

Then got the $60 plan http://www.att.com/shop/wireless/plans/prepaidplans.html

    What Phone do you have?

    • iPhone 6

      • I'd recommend AT&T in that case. You'd have the Australian version so it is compatible with AT&T 4G.

I ordered the sim from the eBay store as above and set everything up before I went. Then at some point into my flight I put my new sim in. Within about 5 minutes of being on the ground in the US I was online.

Remember almost every single restaurant/coffee shop/museum has wifi, use that where you can and save your data for using google maps

        • It does seem to work out a lot cheaper than sim corner actually I'm just trying to figure out which deal is better. $60 is 4gb yeah?

        • @itschrisraymond: yeah. $60 is 4GB at high speed

          Remember AT&T is like Telstra

T-Mobile is kinda between Vodafone and Opfus.

If you go go http://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/ all the bands and which phones work were are listed there.

Unfortunately for you the $ conversion rate is kinda crap at the moment

  • +1

I ordered a T-mobile sim from TravelSimsDirect who were running a promotion a couple of months ago.
T-mobile worked great while I was in the US recently.
Here's an article that might help you with your decision:

    • agreed…. I did the same… worked fine… they even activated sims before I arrived, so I could share my USA number with those who needed it!

      • So travel direct sim is recommended? Wonder why sim corner is so expensive

  • +1

i just saw the other posts, i actually got it a travel sims direct and not sim corner.

this was the deal i used https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/175628
