I reckon plenty of us are up for the title… How far have YOU gone to save money? Bonus points if the example is already on Ozbargain.

My grandmother was the nicest person on earth, she passed away about 10 years ago. She drove back and forth across Australia every year to visit us in Perth from Ballarat until she was well into her 80's. The last time she visited before she couldn't drive anymore she had stayed with a bikie gang in the middle of no where and been cooking for them all because she found them to be "nice young men who just needed to mind their Ps and Qs"…..
I remember us visiting her one year, and my Dad showed us everything in her pantry and fridge had the purchase date in black marker pen written on it somewhere - she had lived back in the days with no fridge and so knew that some foods would last much longer than any best by dates. The one thing I always remember though was her hanging tea bags on the clothes line so she could re-use them once or twice more. Dad knew this and had taken around a box of tea bags (tongue in cheek) so we could have new ones when we visited, she told him off because she said she would never give anyone else used ones, but she still saved ours for the clothes line after we finished our cuppas lol.
We also used to get the biggest and best xmas presents from her, so I know where every spare cent went - to the grandkids :)
TLDR; reusing teabags twice lol
I love this story! Your grandmother sounds really sweet.
Me too, this really is a 'cool story, man'! Your gran sounds ace. You couldn't really call her a 'tightarse' though, because she spent up big on presents for her grandkids… I'd say she was 'great at prioritising her expenditure'.
True, she would have loved ozbargain :)
I was having a discussion with my pharmacist's boss and he told me about this old guy who came in and only bought those little travel soaps.
And then one day they didn't have any when he came in and so they suggested normal size soaps and he said no because he was too worried that the increased surface area will cause him to use more soap.
beat this, i've always showered with cold water in winter LOL nothing's too cold for me haha
Not much sacrifice if you are in Cairns though ;)
Only shower once per week. Even better!
That's grot bro
Or you could shower at work or at a public place (beach?).
bloke in the next cubicle to me at the loo this morning seemed to be taking an awful lot of paper… As he started the 'process'
If he bought the glad branded bags. Then he is not that tight.
Now if scored those from work from some who brought food in.
Then wash them to reuse then maybe.
