Need some advice. Been seeing winter clothes on sale everywhere.
The night was freezing cold then was getting relatively ok in the last few days (in Sydney).
Spring is theoretically in Sep. Do you think it's time now to pack up winter clothes and not to buy anymore?
I am still waiting for the down jacket bought online to arrive. Hopefully I get a chance to wear it before getting too warm. : )
Is Winter over Now? Would You Buy More Winter Clothes for This Year?

QLD experiences winter?!! :O
50mm deep in snow just over a week ago in parts of QLD
Typically when we realise that we do actually need some current season clothing, the shops have already moved into 'new season' gear.
Late in winter when it gets the coldest (now) can only buy shorts and swimmers, late in summer (feb-March) when it gets the hottest you can only buy wooly jumpers and thick socks. Very annoying for those that aren't fashion victims and need to buy clothes for 'now' not for the coming season.
Fashion over function again.
It's actually because people buy for the weather prior to the seasonal change (at least that's what my mother told me). She owns a clothing store, she told me that most of her sales on seasonal goods actually happen before the season begins. Also, the wholesales retailers actually change their stock accordingly as well, so it's damn hard to grab hold of the stock as well. At least this probably is correct for my country.
That's for the people who buy each season, those of us that aren't victim to fashion and wear clothes until they wear out and/or keep minimal stock of clothes need to buy when it's cold/hot not just in preparation.
As I said, wholesales retailers reflect the fact that people stock up before the season starts, they actually change stock accordingly. So it becomes hard to find reliable source of seasonal clothing during the season for the retailers (I guess it feedbacks onto each other). At least that's what my mother told me when she was looking for my stuff (she gets special discounts and she really really hates, despises, abhors anything other than what she sees as acceptable in clothing department); wholesales retailers stock seasonal stuff fairly early and it's hard to find any after that time period.
That's what moves the market, people who buy before the season starts are far more than people who buys during the season. Retailers simply change the stock accordingly. My mother told me that she aims to sell most of the winter stuff before the winter starts, because after that, it usually becomes really hard for her to sell the leftovers (she usually looks into decisions on discounts for those leftovers).
@AznMitch: I guess the difference is some people are shoppers and like to buy stuff for what's coming up. Personally i despise clothes shopping and avoid it until i need stuff, then get screwed because of the limit stock left.
I buy winter clothes at the end of winter and have them ready to wear for the next year.
I find it more cost-effective to use the various Delivery Hero and Hungry Jack's offers to bulk up for winter and then use the Light & Easy coupons and deals on Volley runners to trim down for summer.
If the price is a bargain it doesn't matter what time of the year to buy. I've never been one to buy clothes for each season as a bargain is a bargain & I'll put it away for the designated season if required. The big chain department stores used to be good for an end of season sale but I've found not so in the past year or so.
Buy clearance items for next year.
In theory spring isn't until September. But in practice it's already getting too warm to wear two layers here in QLD.
