Pay off Student Loan Vs Investing (Please Advise)

Hi guys,

First time posting here. Need some advice regarding to investing/paying off student loan

I just graduated and I'm here working full-time.

I have a student loan debt of about $41,000 NZD with an interest rate of 5.3%(yes, I studied in New Zealand).

Should I focus on paying this off as soon as possible? Or should I invest in something(say like a Vanguard index fund) and use the return to pay this off later on?

Thanks!

  • This news from The Australian or SMH is described as "outrageous" now after heard about it over 10 years ago.

Well, it seems that your interest rate on your Student Loan is over and above the risk free rate of return which is currently indexed at 2.75%.

The costs of leaving further interest to accrue is greater than potential risk free return on monies — so my decision would be to pay off the loans.

  • I would definitely focus on paying the debt off as quick as possible.
you can always invest money later, recieve profit and put in your pocket instead paying that as interest.
