Flight from Sydney in Alice Springs in Early October - What Is a Good/Reasonabl Price?

I'm wondering if someone who knows about flight prices to Alice Springs can help me out.

I'm planning to fly from Sydney to Alice Springs on 3/10. At the moment, Qantas's website is showing a "Red e-Deal" price of $329 but I'm not sure if that is a good price or just the normal price. Virgin doesn't fly there on this date.

Considering there are limited flights flying into Alice Springs, does it means there is unlikely to be any speical offers on this route?

The tour that I'm booked on isn't confirmed yet (hasn't reached the minimum number) so obviously if this is just the usual price, then it might be safer to wait.

Any suggestion on cheaper alternative way to get there is also welcomed.

  • Skyscanner.com.au suggested that Qantas' QF790 is the cheapest flight at the moment.

Checked STA Travel for any Under 26 discounts, but no dice.

    • Thanks QW3RTY. The cheapest price of $329 that I can find is for this flight. I know this is the cheapest price available at this moment but what I don't know is whether that is a good price or not because I simply haven't followed the price of this route for long enough to know what the usual price is.

If it's just the usual/recurring discounted price, then there is no urgency for me to book it now to lock in the price (esp before my tour is confirmed).

But if this is a good deal, then I might be happy to take the risk of having to cancel in the even that my tour does not go ahead.

      • Its the cheapest fare for date you want to travel.

If you want to travel these dates just buy it, prices will go up as you get closer to your date.

        Or you can drive

        • The problem is that my tour isn't confirmed. So ideally I'd wanna wait till it is before I book the flight (if the price is not likely to shot up significantly).

As I said, I know it's the cheapest fare I can get today but to say that prices will only ever go up is probably an overstatement as sales fare are often only valid for travel dates close to the booking date.

All I was hoping for by asking here is that someone who has knowledge/ experience with this particular route for their advice on what the normal/ reasonable price is.

        • @Love a bargain:

Why not have a look at other flight dates.
Look at departing tomorrow, in a month, in six months and in a year.

If there are price discrepancies based on date of travel, you'll certainly be able to identify with four searches.

        • +1

          @QW3RTY:

          I've already done that.

But what that doesn't/ won't show is whether what we see right this moment represents the norm. Most of us can tell a good deal for flights to Japan or Gold Coast but not everyone is famaliar with flights to Alice Springs. I was only hoping someone in this community would be more knowledgeable than me in this.

  • Hey mate, what tour are you doing? If you are doing the red centre tour, most of the tour companies will pick you up from Ayers rock airport which will be a cheaper option. Depending on what tour you are on, between Alice Springs and Ayers Rock, you will not miss much except for a bus ride for more than 5 hours. For Sunday 04/10, Jetstar flight from Sydney to Ayers Rock is only $195.00.

If you can give me a bit more info, then I can try and help a bit more.

    Cheers

  • My tour doesn't pick up from Ayers Rock Airport so that's not an option.

If the tour goes ahead, I'll need to be in Alice Springs by 3/10 (Sat) to join the tour early in the morning on 4/10 (Sun).
