Back to The Future Trilogy Blu-Ray $17.99 @ Mighty Ape

$13 + $4.99 shipping (3-6 days, AU-wide Economy)

Description

Back To the Future – Part 1: Michael J. Fox stars as Marty McFly, a typical American teenager of the Eighties accidentally sent back to 1955 in a plutonium-powered DeLorean “time machine” invented by slightly mad scientist Christopher Lloyd. During his often hysterical, always amazing trip back in time, Marty must make certain his teenage parents-to-be, Crispin Glover and Lea Thompson, meet and fall in love – so he can get back to the future.

Back To The Future – Part 2: A visit by Marty and the Doc to the year 2015 seems to resolve a few problems with the future McFly family. When they return home, they discover someone has tampered with time and Hill Valley, 1985. They must once again get back to 1955 to save the future…..

Back To The Future – Part 3: Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd star with Mary Steenburgen in this rousing conclusion to the popular series. Stranded in 1955 after a freak burst of lightning, Marty must travel back to 1885 to rescue Doc Brown from a premature end. Surviving an Indian attack and unfriendly townsfolk, Marty finds Doc Brown is the local blacksmith. But with the Doc under the spell of the charming Clara Clayton, it's up to Marty to get them out of the Wild West and back to the future.

    Great price for the trilogy.
There's a new 30th Anniversary edition coming out in October with new special features and Flux Capacitor packaging.
Of course it will be more expensive, but just a heads-up for those that might be interested.

    • Hope it's got a new transfer — the existing BluRays are pretty atrocious with way too much DNR. No way would I pay again for the same transfer.

Luckily there's a huge 40+GB 1080p rip of BTTF1 'out there' made from a 2K DCP thats way better than the Blu — but nothing better for 2 or 3.

      • Do you mean this comparison?

        • Looks like it — I can't imagine there's more than 1 DCP rip out there. But these are the screens I saw:

I just feel so burnt out by poor BTTF releases — there was the DVD that was misframed, the replacement for the misframed that was too dark, finally the fixed DVDs….and then the lacklustre Blu!

        • @SteveBuscemi: So what your saying, is in fact, I shouldn't buy this set, amiright?

        • @TRANCE: Check out the image comparisons in our posts and decide for yourself.
If the grain removal in this comparison doesn't bother you, then go for it.

        • @Max Power: I came to the conclusion that the Bluray colors aren't as natural, dynamic range is worse, and the framing also seems a bit off. I won't buy.

    • Wow I forgot they went to 2015 definitely gonna order the special edition!

    • BTTF had an animated series? Why has this important information eluded me my entire life? #wantwantwant

  • Love BTTF

Can't believe its been almost 4 years 2 months ago I purchased this for $19.95 shipped from this deal. Excellent collection and well worth getting. It was the Limited edition 3D lenticular slip cover. Other than that its still just a standard blu-ray 3 disc amaray case.

  • Thanks for this OP.

  • This was $18.99 delivered in January. So this deal is better.

  • Great find. good for the old fella

So it was filmed with low res, actual film and yet somehow it's going to look better on BD than on DVD?

    • Film has a higher resolution than 1080p.

      • -2

That doesn't mean the 'digital remastering' on these was done with a fine-tooth comb - usually it's a 4K scan, but automated DNR and 'sharpen' filters remove detail. Most films benefit greatly from the process when viewed at lower res like DVD, but not so much on BD. It's only a bargain if you don't already own the DVD trilogy IMHO.

  • The deal was meant to run to midday according to the listing, not sure why it ended earlier. Live chat was kind enough to adjust the price to $13 after I placed an order at $49.99 (credit card is not charged until item is shipped).

  • Thats great. Thanks OP.
