Good Wi-Fi Extenders

I need a good wifi extender, the one I have now is a NetComm NP124 Wireless N Extender and it random disconnects and isnt doing the job.Anyone can recommend one? In our house there will probably be at least 2-4 phones connected to it and also a gaming console.
Thank you

Wifi extenders are bad, wifi routers are good :) Buy yourself a second wifi router instead — many routers can be either bridged or put into a repeater mode. Should not cost you any more than $60~100 for a half decent one.

Wifi extenders should only be used as a last resort. Try to find a good spot to put down a second router connected to the first using ethernet cable.

If that is no good invest in a TP-Link Powerline adapter with AC pass through. They are about $80 bucks but they can get cheaper if you buy ones without the AC pass thru. And this is how they work and how you'll set it up

Again if that is no good, upgrade your router to a Ubiquiti UniFi access point. This baby will put wifi signals so far out you'll be able to surf your internet two blocks away… and it even comes with an POE injector.

  • I installed a cheap Netgear wifi extender in a friend's house a year ago and so far has been working without issues. He hasn't called me once since I installed it.

He hasn't called me once since I installed it.

      Is he still your friend?

LOL, of course, I still speak to him from time to time.

  • I have been using a D-Link DAP-1320 for the last couple of years, and am very happy.

It's a bit over 15m from my router, and the signal passes through 3 brick walls.

http://au.pcmag.com/d-link-wireless-n300-range-extender-dap-… was the review that I read.

  • My 2c worth; I gave up on extenders. Much better to buy a reasonable low cost dual band router (WDN900 ~$50), get an ethernet cable to it and configure it as an access point.

I live in a large single floor stone house (300mm thick stone walls), about 30m front to back. I still have a bunch of extenders that gave varying performance, but all prone to dropouts, especially when streaming media.

Now I have just a primary TP Link dual band wi-fi modem/router at one end of the house, the WD N900 configured as an access point at the other. We are covered. There is always a good wi-fi signal in whichever room we are in and there are no drop outs. It's been working like that for about 8 months now.

PS: I admit it, crawling through the roof space dragging the ethernet cable across was a PITA. But worth it.

  • Had a Zyxel thing for a while which was a pain in the backside, then got a Western Digital My Net which was pretty quick and worked most of the time… needed a reset about every 3-4 weeks.

However in the end I picked up a Netgear R7000 router with external aerials and replaced those with some others that could be mounted in different places and now have no need to the extender at all… wifi covers every inch of the house, garden and even beyond…
