What are some inexpensive, healthy food places to take your significant other? (Or just general cheap, fun things to do?)

I'm looking for things to do with the girlfriend, like food places that are inexpensive and healthy, or just simple outings that are a bit of fun and that don't break the bank.

Edit: I'm located in Sydney CBD & Western Suburbs

    DIY picnics.

Fruit picking together? Not sure on costs though. But would be fun and you'll have plenty of delicious healthy fresh fruit to eat afterwards!

Where are you located? City, regional?

Berry picking is roughly $10 kg. But, it's seasonal, usually summertime.

How about citrus fruits? They're in season now.

Clicking on each shows their 'calendar' listing which fruit/veg is available in each given month/season. I can't see prices though :(

10 pin bowling, fun and cheap.

    • Bowling is expensive at alleys etc.

It's like $6 per person per game at Strike or AMF

Cooking fancy dinner with gf in the kitchen. It's cheap, it doesn't add to anything other than the grocery run you'd need to do, and it can be seen as a romantic thing to do, depending on what you make and how you make it.

    • ^^ This :) Home cooked Scotch Fillet could be done for under $15, vs the cost of going out and getting the same thing.

You in melbourne? Check out lentil as anything

    • There's one in Sydney now too.

      • Thanks!! I'll check it out. Do you guys like it?

        • I haven't been myself, been meaning to go. But everyone I've spoken to rates it well - despite the fact that its one of those pay what you think its worth places.

Same here. I know several people who dine there regularly and love it. Seen photos of dishes and they look pretty good. Ex-vegetarian here, though, so the food really does appeal to me from that side of things too. mmm

        • @waterlogged turnip:

Went once and the food was very low quality. Haven't been back. This is the original location at the abbotsford convent

  • 21 piece bucket at the bus stop outside KFC, while waiting for the bus back home. Cheapalicious!

My wife and I used to enjoy 60c dates - 2x30c cones from maccas, then drive to the closest scenic lookout to enjoy the views. ;-)
Inflation means it's $1 now, but still great value.

  • Just saw your location - during the day, catch a ferry to Olympic Park, bicentennial park mangroves, Newington or somewhere else you'd like to explore together and pack a special picnic for lunch or cheese and bikkies for the afternoon etc.
If you use public transport during the week and have your 8 trips, the transport is free.
Or you, for a little more $$$, if she was into it, you could do a Saturday arvo sausage crawl - looking for sausage sizzles (bunnings, school fetes etc). Then, if it's raining, spend time wandering through bunnings, choose colours for your dream home in the paint department, find the weirdest garden sculpture etc - no need to buy anything. Bunnings/Masters etc are full of great conversation starters.
