      I always get them confused. Which one is the more established US brand and which is our localised knock off?

        Forever 21 is the U.S. brand (also sold in Australia now). Generally rather cheap and fairly low quality. Forever new is an Australian brand. Nicer stuff, more expensive, but still reasonable for what you get in my opinion.
