Gigabyte Brix N2807 PC Kit $155 + Purchase 2 Select Items for Free Delivery @ Shopping Express

50

Pretty good deal on these Barebone PC's.
The items which you must combine with to get the free shipping are some RAM and HDD or a retail copy of win8.1.

Cheapest price for the N2807 i could find on ebay was $170.

The 1TB SSHD in the bundle is sold out so i would just make your own bundle with one of the SSD's.
Wondering if i should pull the trigger on this since my parents PC is idle and wasting electricity constantly.

  • (again) their crossed out RRP prices are amazing. They'd go broke if it weren't for these "sales".
    8GB Kingston RAM = $312 !!

    • Yea the RRP is a bit silly. But i did a ebay search on all the items and most of them are the slightly cheaper than the cheapest on ebay except the 8gb ram which I found for $5 cheaper.

  • Anyone have any experience with this unit for Plex transcoding??
I ended up purchasing one myself, hope it will work for 720p/1080p video/audio transcoding.

  • I would probably spend a few more dollars and opt for at least the J1900 variant ($179 in the same sale) as this will give you a good quad core as opposed to a dual core, as well as a faster clock on the Intel HD Graphics and dual channel RAM (8gb max vs 4gb).

    Some comparisons below.

The J1900 equipped with 8GB should roast a N2807 with 4GB. The difference in power consumption will probably not be noticeable in real world use.

    • I've taken your advice and e-mailed them to see if i can do a last minute change to my order.

I purchased the 8gbram though, are you saying that the n2807 cannot handle the 8gb stick?

      • Not according to the Intel spec sheet for the N2807 processor

        • I need only internet browsing and MS office usage, plus video for few minutes, is J1900 with 8GB RAM working well with my needs ? thanks.

@tinkko: I can't see why not. If the $ stretch, opt for a SSD over the SSHD or traditional HDD. Also go with 2x4Gb RAM to take advantage of the dual channel capability of the J1900. Doing this will make the BRIX snappy and you will be happier with it for much longer.

I opted for the i3-5010u NUC and have been very happy with it, the BRIX i3 in this deal is the equivalent.

        • @aim54x:
Thanks but J1900 spec shows that 1 x SO-DIMM DDR3L 1.35V slot, means that I could not use 2 x 4GB RAM, I am pretty new to NUC, so, pls guide me, I was going to place order for J1900 & 8GBRAM, I already have 64GB SSD, cheers

@tinkko: just checked the BRIX specs, you are correct only one RAM slot so a single 8GB SODIMM will be the way to go. I hate it when manufacturers restrict you like that. Grab the J1900 and 8GB. You may want to get larger SSD as you will only have one 2.5in drive bay and 64gb does not leave you with much spare room. I would target 256gb minimum.

          @aim54x:
with my budget, better go with J1900, my Core 2 Duo desktop is still up & running but I am afraid that could be die at anytime, so I would like to keep J1900 as my mybackup, cheers mate,

The thing I dislike about the Brix is that they are missing an IR sensor. I feel this is critical if its going to be used as a media PC.

Any one have an idea whether there might be more stock of the 1TB SSHD arriving?

    If there is I'll probably spring for the J1900 + 8GB + 1TB SSHD

    • That's a good little bundle and the price for the 4gb bundle is very tasty.

  • It's $155 from MSY, regular price
