Balance Buddy Balance Bike $80 (Save $39) Delivered

10
MG80

I've only recently looked into balance bikes but from what I've found/read these Balance Buddy units seem like a decent deal at about 1/3rd off regular price. It's not one of the bigger brands in this market so there's not a lot of reviews/related info about them, but it's relatively light weight, adjustable, and looks reasonably durable. I was considering getting one before realising it won't fit the intended recipient for some time.

In any case, with reference to the 12 features to consider in balance bikes (list as per twowheelingtots):

  1. Saddle seat height: 3 position adjustable, 28-41cm. Handlebars can also be adjusted between 51-53cm (two position). Use of supplied tool required for adjustment.
  2. Seat shape, material, padding: U-shaped, plastic, no padding.
  3. Frame and component materials: Plastic - high impact compound, BPA free, non toxic resin.
  4. Total weight: 3.5kg
  5. Tires: Airless 10" EVA polymer
  6. Brakes: none
  7. Turning limiters: none
  8. Footrest: none
  9. Warranty: 100% satisfaction 30 day guarantee (though there's no explicit mention of a warranty beyond this)
  10. Handlebar grips: has knobby end
  11. Exposed bolts: recessed
  12. Geometry: not sure, could be better?

Other factors:

  • Built mainly for children aged 18 months to 5 years or up to 27 kgs
  • Colour choices: red/white, yellow/black, green/white
  • Delivery is via couriers or in some cases Australia Post, takes between 1-9 business days once despatched. Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane Metro is typically overnight delivery.

Balance bikes are an excellent way to teach kids how to ride. My youngest literally went from a balance bike to pedals in 5 minutes.

However, I think the wooden bikes (<$40) are a better bargain than these plastic ones. If I was going to pay this much I would expect a metal frame.

My concern with this is plastic frame. My 2 boys have used the same steel framed balance bike and have dropped, smashed and crashed it with no damage to it. It's much better than those wooden ones. We paid $129 but here is one for $49 http://www.pushys.com.au/rebel-kidz-steel-mini-10-balance-bi… Reasonable postage only $15 to country vic

Wooden ones are better. But if youre going to buy a metal one, why wouldn't you just get a kids bike & remove the pedals/cranks & chain? then fit them when they're ready.

    • I have had friends who said the kids trashed even the expensive wooden ones and after a couple of them they went metal and all next kids used it (big family). You could do the crank thing as you suggest but the shape, weight balance etc it optimised feet pushing rather than cranking. These take more pounding than a kmart bike with cranks off. Besides you start kids on these REALLY young so the physical height to allow for cranks on a peddle bike means little wont fit it like they do on these.

  • the coupon doesnt work

    • My bad, typo in entering code. Should be MG80, which I've tested to confirm it works.

  • @mathew42 @supabrudda could your elaborate on how/why wooden ones are better?
