Travel insurance for Nepal

Hi all,

I will be going to Nepal in October for a 4 week long trek.

I will be needing travel insurance that includes helicopter evacuation etc

Can anyone recommend any good insurance providers? Or share any experiences with obtaining insurance for "dangerous" destinations?

  • Most insurance cover up to 6000m elevation. Confirm this.

Go for the biggest insurance companies. I would recommend Medibank.

have a look at southern cross travel insurance

  • I used Covermore when I went to Everest Base Camp last year. I would ring them to confirm, as things may have changed since then. I haven't had to claim on it, but a friend did after being in a serious accident in Africa and they were very good.

  • Thanks for the responses so far. Has anyone used "World Nomads"?

    • I have, but I've never claimed so can't say if they are any good in that department. Also I don't buy extra cover for other activities, so no help there.

seems like you don't know what you're looking for.

Make a list of what you think could happen and then check PDS to ensure they cover these situations.

  • Don't forget the most important ( from bitter experience) is get a dental check up and any wisdom tooth issues fixed. Tooth problems become extrapolated so to speak at altitude. Have a nice trip.

  • Does your credit card cover travel insurance already?
I didn't think the cover was based on how dangerous a country was, such as choosing helicopter option, but more how expensive medical assistance was. USA was always the most expensive in my opinion.

  • I used TID for Everest Base Camp last November. I called to confirm that they cover helicopter evacuation and they advised that there was no limit on altitude.
