I would like to take my 7 and 4 year olds to experience snow in the NSW ski fields. We don't want to ski or snowboard, probably just muck around in the white stuff and maybe toboggan a bit. We only want to stay Sat/Sun nights. Any suggestions on budget accommodation or other general ideas to do it as cheaply as possible? We are a family of 2 adults/2 kids. Thanks!

NCT T&T uses the Snowy Mountain Motor Inn in Berridale, you can give them a call and check the availability and price for a room of 4 at the dates of your choice. Have fun.
We stayed at The Station Hotel in Jindabyne a couple of weeks ago and paid $188/night. Not sure what your budget is but that was the cheapest I could find for that week we were there. Gear hire was from Snow Valley Ski Hire located east Jindabyne which was $38/day for snow man pack (jacket, pants, boots and toboggan). Should be able to go cheaper, just depends on how far you want to drive. Jindabyne to Threadbo/Perisher is under 30mins drive.

Research tobogganing where you want to go, eg. Thredbo outlawed them up till a year or so ago and now only allow them in their small play area (but big enough for ages of kids you have). Just don't expect free reign of the mountain on them.

The above is a pdf brochure for NCT Tours & Travel to the Snowy. It's one of the many Chinese operated tours which are quite cheap and reasonably priced. I have been to a few of them previously but can't remember which tour companies.
You should read up on the 1 Day or 2 Day trip. The 1 Day trip(SN1) is very hectic but you can't ask for more for under $100pp! I recommend the 2 day trip(SN2L or SN2B) which doubles the price of a 1 day trip for a 4 shared rooom. It's cheaper if you are willing to share the room with 4 other people.
