TV HELP for gaming LED / LCD / PLASMA

Hi all,

I am after a TV for my XBOX One and PS4.

Ideally something big 42-50"

Budget is around $1500

Big box stores here are JB HIFI, Dick Smith, Good Guys, Harvey Norman. Happy to get delivered though if shipping is good.

Biggest thing I need (and am confused about) is refresh rate. I use a Samsung Plasma at the moment and it has a lot of ghosting and blur especially in background. I read a few articles about TVs being advertised with fake refresh rates E.G 200 Hertz but it is basically just processing and flashing frames or something.

I don't need 3D or Smart TV etc and 4K not really important as the consoles only run in 1080P.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

  • Even if the tv can take 200hz. Consoles essentially only run at 60 fps. So you can't make use of the higher refresh

    • Yeah exactly so just looking for something that would give as clear as possible for the 60FPS

  • +1

Found this one it looks nice http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/hisense-55-inches140cm-fhd-led…
Also go instore, the good guys are always willing to talk down the price especially if you pay cash, so barter the price down as much as you can

  • Alright cheers mate looks good 55" too :)

  • Just bought a 55inch smart led soniq tv thing from JBhifi for $799

    • Do you know the refresh rate and model?

      • probs the lowest of lowest, have played ps4 on it though. looked great. Stocked for the price.

  • Noticed on the Hisense 55" that it says

"100Hz Vivid Motion technology is a Hisense developed motion compensating technology to enhance clarity in fast moving images. This technology is achieved by inserting in-between video frames at twice the rate of 50Hz technology, further clarifying moving images. The 100Hz feature is perfect for sports lovers as each fast movement appears more fluid, smooth, and clear."

I wonder if that means the actual refresh rate is lower?

  • Input lag can be a concern for some gamers. Sony TV's have historically had the lowest (ie: best) lag.

  • See if you can get your hands on a Sony KDL50W800B which is last year's models. It has really low input lag at 24.3ms. The new model KDL50W800C has 37.4ms.

  • +1 for the Sony, using a KDL48W600B with ps4 and pc looks fantastic! Also its a smart tv, so built in netflix at the click of a button :)

I had also bought previous to that a KDL50W700B (no longer have, dead pixels RMA/refund) and even though it had the extra hz it the kdwl48w600b looks just as good.

Really cant fault the entry level sony tvs :)
