  • Hi
Nice specs. Nice price. But. Can you confirm and guarantee that the 3G is working for BOTH Android and Windows???.
I was looking at Cube iwork8 3G and 3G only apparently works on Android? (i emailed and got that response).

I've been using this as my main windows device for the past 3 months.

I can confirm that 3g works on both android and windows. However, voice calls only works in Android.

Thanks for confirmation. Isnt it weird voice calls wont work on windows?

        • Well there is no dialler apps preinstalled. I have not tested any third party apps, but I do remember seeing this in a review, before I bought mine.

With comparable specs, why does the dual boot now tend to be cheaper than Android only? Too bad I have bought Chuwi Hi8. Otherwise this will be nice with bigger screen.

    • I suspect they make it cheaper to make it more attractive to buyers as the Windows license is given to them for free and there is less storage left over when it's dual OS.

  • wow, that igzo display itself would cost around 100-150

    • Cube are getting them for much less than that, most likely.

      Screen technology interests me, somewhat.

Apple's enforced rejection rate - rumoured to be around 30% averaged across multiple screen-suppliers (because they don't quite meet spec for colour-gamut performance etc.), has seen lots of the non-IGZO retina screens appearing in cheap tabs, including Cube's, for quite a while now.
Because of the numbers of iPads sold, that 30% reject-rate equates to a LOT of slightly-below-spec screens for suppliers to frisbee. (Not good for dogs, but better for China-tab manufacturers.)

Sharp and LG are making IGZO screens. They have also had some significant manufacturing issues (purportedly), with the 9.7 screens slated for iPads now only arriving with the 'Air'. If so, 'in-spec' ones were just being progressively stockpiled. Others - likely still very good - sold off on the cheap, by necessity, given likely volume.

There are rumours that IGZO displays are also making their way into Apple's monster 12.9 inch iPad, so…

Anyway, as regards the latter, I choose to believe that Godzilla has a pre-production unit and is currently scrolling through Tinder, swiping right to a soon to be shit-scared Komodo Dragon.

      • I'm just basing it off the ~$90usd ips panels on alibaba sold as replacement for ipads. I'm sure these aren't A+ grade panels, but I never thought even reject igzo panels would be so cheap.

        • I guess you have to remember that Cube doesn't have to pay for the chipset or OS in this tablet, so they're able to still make profit by having more expensive parts in them.

  • Keen until I read specs table: HDMI - No. Increasing oversight on these tabs.

I prefer wired to the screencasting thang.

have you actually tried a chromecast? they are a godsend

      • +2

I did a bit of a quick research on the chromecast and not sure if I understand it correctly but you need to have WiFi as well don't you?

So say for example I was to go away on a trip and stayed at the hotel I wouldn't be able to plug the chrome cast into the TV and get it to work would I unless I took along a wireless router or something?

        • yeah you do need wifi.

    • +2

Same with me - $2 HDMI cable is by far the easiest and cheapest option when travelling

    • +1

I'm working on getting a coupon for that one.

      • That would be great, I am torn between Cube t9 and Telcast T98

    • Nice find. The previous 3G 9X version is apparently a pretty good device as well.

  • Is that IPS then?

And does is the SD card support really only up to 32gb?

    • Yeah, IPS.

Specs say 32GB, but it's very possible that more would work. Could always do USB OTG for things like USB flash drives etc.

      • Probably larger than 32 will not be recognized, I purchased a 64 from a previous deal and does not work in any of my cameras or phones. Is not broken as my PC recognizes and can use it. It seems it is a newer standard when you go from 32 to 64.

        • +2

You just need to format it as fat32

    • Confusing :)

Bigger than 32gb and up to 2TB is SDXC standard. 32gb is only SDHC standard. There is a hardware difference.

I would have thought the unit would have SDXC hardware, because it's so prevalent that I think it would be cheaper than SDHC hardware. I don't know if SDHC would even be manufactured nowadays.

But whether fat32 fixes the compatibility issue I have no idea. I guess someone with a unit would have to try.

I'm probably out of the market right now anyway. I have been looking at this kind of item, but my job situation may be changing.

  • anything without 3G?

    • There is the Teclast X98 Air II that doesn't have 3G, but does have 64GB of storage and a faster processor.

  • +1

Hmmm Baytrail (ie the Cube i6)

or pay slightly more than double for

    Core M version (Cube i7)

  • Are the wifi only ones worth it? (bit wary as i want to access internet with one of these tablets while travelling) - do they work with external 3G usb sticks etc?

    • Depends on the tablet. Some support it while others don't. You can still use a 3G tablet without putting in a sim card of course.

      • If it says OTG external 3G modems should be supported, correct?

        • Yes that's correct.

  • Please do a sale for cube T9

    • I'm going to try and make my next deal on that.
