  • I have model SRF579DLS. Looks very similar to the first model you listed. Have had it for around 1.5 years now, paid around $1,500 for it (Good Guys). I find its a great size for family of 4, can stuff so much food in there. The freezer section is quite big too. Its divided into a top and bottom half. Almost half of the top section is taken up by the ice container which is a bit of wasted space but that would be my only gripe. Note, my family are vegetarian so we have no need to store meat in the freezer. I still wouldn't see any problem finding room though for a week's shop of meat plus other frozen items.
It runs very quiet. The fridge & freezer temp can be controlled independently - I just set these to 3 and -19 which is what is recommended in the manual and haven't touched altered since. Our ice cream does tend to get quite hard at that temp. Fridge door has a chime which sounds if the door is left open after a certain time period. We use the water dispenser all the time in summer. Its a minor inconvenience taking out the container to refill every couple of days.
Didn't notice any great change to our power bills, up or down, when we upgraded to this fridge.
I'd have no problem recommending this.

    • @Nobby, Thank you.

We are vegeterian's too. I am having a hard time convincing to buy something that has a big freezer.

Which one those two would you recommend?

      • Well the second model (side by side) doesn't seem to have a freezer section at all. So that's probably more for people who have a separate chest freezer. For my family we wouldn't have even considered the side by side model as we need a freezer. We find we keep it filled easily enough (veges, bread, chips, ice cream etc) so we're never running out of that stuff.

        • Well the second model (side by side) doesn't seem to have a freezer section at all.

That's not correct. Half the fridge is the freezer (that's what the left-hand door leads to, yielding the name 'side by side').

        • @blitz: Apologies, I was looking at the pics (not very closely obviously) and assumed the left side was a fridge as well. In that case it probably comes down to personal preference between the 2 models. For me, it makes sense that the freezer is at the bottom as we're accessing the fridge part most of the time so its convenient having everything at standing height.

    • Thanks Nobby;

what do you think about the reviews here.. (Too many bad reviews) it seems you have had a lucky one :)

    • If someone is still looking, the SRF583 is $1699 at Costco Crossroads NSW

  • We have the 583NLS, which is similar to the SRF603HLS except for the easy access door:

It's almost perfect, expect for one small problem. For some idiotic reason, you can't actually move the shelves in the refrigerator section. So if you don't like where the Samsung engineers have placed them, you can remove them but that's it. Unfortunately, that can mean a lot of wasted space if you buy tall things (e.g. lots of soft drinks, which have to go inside the door. It's not a huge issue for us.

However, that said, the fridge is really great. The crisper keeps fruit for ages, it's very quiet as Nobby says, and it is very pretty to look at. Also like Nobby, I would have no problem recommending this one.

    • Hi does your 583NLS makes random stabilizer noises at random times? Sometimes the noise is so loud it scares the shit out of us (specially at night). Can you please confirm if this is the same with your fridge? If not there is an issue with mine and I need to report it. Thanks.

      • No, ours is quiet as a mouse.

  • I would be weary to go for Samsung french doors after reading this and I have read it to be the problem on many forums:
    http://www.productreview.com.au/p/samsung-srf579dis-srf579dl…

It seems they have just come up withj the same fridge with slight modification to get rid of the bad reviews (I think); cause the 579l one was battered everywhere..

BUT.. width wise this has probably the best mass/volume ratio so I also want to go for these but will go where the warranty is the most..

    • Just read the reviews for the heck of it; I think I will refrain; the horror stories are a bit beyond coincidence.. Its hard to find any product with brilliant reviews on productreview.com.au (majority of times only the disgruntled are bothered to write a review or the EXTREMELY satisfied beyond expectation); but, these are a bit too many to be ignored..

Might just wait before the 583L gets tested by the community..
