I've got a voucher to spend at The Good Guys. Anybody able to advise which 4 slice models were recommended by Choice? Paying $23 for their report seems a bit steep.
4 Slice Toaster
Comments
I have a confession to make. A few years ago my Xmas gift was a Dualit 4 slice toaster.
It is gauche to look, but I understand they sell for an absurd price, like, $150+.
I would never pay a tenth of that to toast bread. But.
But, I do make toast every day, and it isn't uncommon for me to make toast at breakfast and again as a snack later in the day. And I do make toast for a number of kids most days.
So I guess I make toast something like 700 times a year.
Now I had never thought about it this way, but 700 toast making sessions a year (my wife probably thinks that is an understatement) and the little things start to add up.
The 4 slots are divided in pairs with individual controls, and the controls themselves are simple, easy knobs from 1 to 5 that control browning.
The bread is lowered with a fat knob, and you can raise it mid-toast to check how it is going, I think that feature alone has paid for the toaster in fewer over toasts and speedier results - not necessarily waiting for completion of the timer cycle.
And spare parts are available and cheap on ebay, and it hasn't skipped a beat on the first few thousand toasts. I kind of think of it like tradespeople think of their fancy brand tools.I am slightly in love with it. It is probably the thing I would grab if the house was on fire after the photo albums.
Now my ozbargain instincts won't allow me to recommend an expensive toaster, but if somebody else bought you one, you might shake your head every day at the expense, but rejoice in the benefits!$150, you must have got the cheap model :) some are nearly $500.

Lots of complaints about cheap toasters problems i.e. not browning both sides the same etc. Stick to Breville and Sunbeam, unless someone here can give a first-hand recommendation on a particular model that works well for them.
Sunbeam café series. Excellent quality
Otherwise +1 on the Dualit
sorry, just check ours, it's a Sunbeam, not Breville.
and was under $100Kenwood Kmix 4-slicer bought at Graysonline for less than $50 is till going strong
no idea. but we have a Breville and it works great.
Did have a Russell Hobbs and that was terrible, so slow toasting it dried the bread out.
