Switch Your CTP to Suncorp for a $50 EFTPOS Gift Card/Donation to YoungCare [QLD Only] - Again

270

Hey, I was looking at paying my Rego and wanted to check I was getting the best price for CTP. I noticed Suncorp was about $6 cheaper so I went about switching.Turns out they have restarted the $50 gift card promo. Bonus I thought, maybe it can save somebody else on ozbargin can benefit

I then discovered this has occurred previously at https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/191601 but I could not find a way to mark that it was unexpired (this does look like a new campaign). So to save the risk of somebody missing out I am posting again. Mods feel free to delete if I called this wrong.

TL;DR: Switch to cheaper CTP and get $50 eftpos.

Surprisingly good deal. I guess they know nobody cares about their CTP and will probably stay with them for decades so they can make their money back later.

    • From what I heard from a mate refinancing his home loan this seems to be their marketing strategy for a lot of things at the moment.

It may surprise you to find that CTP policies are not all created equal.
I changed to Suncorp years ago (yes on a promo like this one) as it had additional benefits, but was slightly more expensive.
Insurance - if you buy on price alone, you can't just fix it once something goes wrong unlike an appliance or car etc.
You have to have some foresight, look into the risks vs the savings and make your value judgement.
Personally, I was happy to pay a few dollars more per year for the additional cover. Now, well it a total no brainer.

      • CTP policies are not all created equal

Are you talking about the core CTP elements (ie the third party protection), or additional bonus elements like at fault driver protection (which had nothing to do with protecting third parties)?

Didn't notice/couldn't find any differences in the former, but differences in the latter did surprise me when I looked into it a few years ago. End result being Suncorp looked the best on paper so have been with them for a while. However I've switched away from them this year because

        • When I checked earlier this year, I found that although Suncorp is still the best by my calculation, QBE isn't too bad either.
        • I can get a similar switching bonus from QBE, and should be able to get another $50 by switching back to Suncorp next year. (This cycle might be able to be repeated on an ongoing basis.)

Blogged about it here if anyone's interested.

        • Yes, as you say, the core elements of CTP are much of a muchness.
It's the added bonuses like driver protection that stand out for me (not that I see myself as high risk).
For about the same $$$ Suncorp offered far better value (my personal view).
Had a dreadful time years ago with a claim on QBE car insurance, swore off them for life.
To your own self be true…is my motto.
Maybe they've changed, maybe their CTP is better, but all the same I won't give them the pleasure of sampling the vapour from my excrement.

    Any deals for current 'customers'?

Might be worth switching from Suncorp to QBE. I did this recently - premium is about $13 more but this is offset by

      1. getting a $25 gift card (some people may qualify for $50)
      2. (hopefully) being able to switch back to Suncorp next year and qualify for another $50 gift card

Rinse and repeat so long as these sorts of offers keep coming up.

  • Got mine from the last deal :) Cheapest premium too..

    • same here.

  • Can we get it for nsw?

    Thanks,

Free $50 gift card for something I don't even care about - you beauty!

  • Thanks heaps OP. Suncorp CTP is $3 cheaper for me too atm (QLD class 1).

  • can i change now even though i have changed from suncorp to RACQ in march 15 (when my rego due)?

    • I don't see anything in the T&Cs that says you can't. My rego is due in Feb and I've signed up. It showed me a page saying expect your card in 28 days. So far, so good.

      • from http://www.maic.qld.gov.au/ctp-premium/changing-insurer.shtm… (emphasis mine):

Motor vehicle owners may nominate to change CTP insurer at any time while the vehicle is currently registered, although the actual change of insurer will only come into effect from the commencement date of the next registration renewal.

  • Suncorp ticked 70 years experience with over 1 million customers.
I question, are they summing the combined experience of their CTP staff = 70 years, as they summed their customer base of over 1 million :) of course they are, they're experts! otherwise the joint would have 1 or 2 jerry's working for them to reach 70 years of actual people experience. Experts I tell you :)

  • How can you find out which CTP insurance has a cheaper premium for your current rego? Currently with Allianz as I've previously dealt with them before having no hassles, not sure if it's worth the change?
