A Digital Magazine To Help you Learn Web, Mobile and Game Development
Learn To Program Magazine is a digital magazine for those who want to learn web, mobile and game development. Each issue of the bi-monthly magazine will include full programing projects such as games, mobile applications and web site apps. Written tutorials will be augmented by video, audio and animated content to increase engagement and support learning.
Relevant Tutorials in Each Issue… Designed for Beginners
We believe the best way to learn development is by building apps. Each article in the magazine will focus on a complete project. Learn To Program Magazine will provide access to all the source code, assets and instructions needed to complete the project.
The magazine will be distributed through iOS, Google Play, Amazon and HTML5.
In the first issue we're including (among others) these two full projects:
Duck Hunt: Readers will learn to create this HTML5 based game which runs on iPad or other similar sized tablet. The written article is augmented by video tutorials. Readers will learn about game development, HTML5, Javascript and animation with the CreateJS library.
Westport Station: Readers will use the MTA API (Metropolitan Transit Authority of New York) to make a mobile application that shows the next trains arriving at any station on the commuter line. We'll also talk to one of the driving forces behind the MTA API— MTA spokesman Aaron Donovan.
The central idea is to provide— instead of abstract tutorials that lead no where— engaging full activities that can be completed reasonably quickly. These activities can provide the basis for larger portfolio projects for new developers.
We're gathering a team of expert technical writers and technical teachers with a strong focus on the quality of communication. Too many technical publications are too jargon-filled and abstract to be useful to beginners. Since we see new developers as our audience Learn To Program Magazine will be taking special care to insure that our content is understandable by all.
