Preparing for the NBN

So continuing from my previous post, I'm confirmed with the ISP DevoteD and the NBN installation is scheduled to happen on next Thursday.

However looking at the house I can see a few potential problems — the power sockets are not simply in the right places and I don't want the NTD to be installed in my living room or bedroom. There are only a few possible locations that I can place the NTD device and none of them have a power point within 3 meters of it. Yikes.

I could call the sparky and get him to install the power points before the scheduled installation date but it would be pointless and a waste of money to pre-emptively install the power sockets before the NBN installers even have a chance to look and discuss what my options are.

If the NBN guys come, and I turn them away after discussing my options, will they charge me extra fees if I get them to come back again to do the installation?

Any advice?

No. But you won't turn them away, because…

You are now allowed to use an extension lead or a power board.

For some more info, see here: https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1996869&…

"It is proposed NBN Co will also amend WBA obligations from having to connect directly to the General Purpose Outlet (GPO) to allowing connection to a 230V AC power source. This will provide flexibility to end users during the NTD installation process, in choosing an appropriate location for NTD/Power Supply installation."

      Specifically…

NTD cable to PSU comes in several flavours up to 5m , PSU to GPO cable is approx 1.5 m but its now possible to plug into extension cords and or powerboards if in good condition.

(Note that user "Dall" is an NBN installer)
