People may not see it as your title only mentions xb1

        Ran out of space

  • +4

unfortunately most of these have been psplus games so have been free preiously

  • Thanks, got two games for my son.

  • Expected more variety of games on offer…

    • They were on sale during their half year clearance as well so there probably isn't much stock left.

Poor PS Vita. Good hardware plagued by high pricing, expensive proprietary storage & a lack of good games. I don't think we'll see Sony go back into the portable space again. We'll have to be content with Nintendo and their bizarre hardware iterations.

    • well, it was always going to be an impossible ask when going up against iphone/android.. small user base, niche market.. compared to the millions, if not billions on phones/tablets.. the only thing it had going for it was dedicated controls.. and sony didn't really help it either.. just too expensive..

      • +2

        The 3DS did well. Dec 31st 2014 - 50+ million 3DS were sold worldwide.

Sometimes I wonder how much of an impact phones and tablets have on dedicated handheld gaming. On the surface it seems logical that they would steal share, but dedicated handhelds are an entirely different experience. I don't think people who like dedicated handhelds would ever be satisfied with the rather poor experience mobile gaming offers. Think of the top 5 or 10 handheld games on any platform, even from last-gen handhelds, then try to think of anything that comes close on mobile. I honestly can't. Even mediocre handheld experiences are much better than mobile games.

        • "Even mediocre handheld experiences are much better than mobile games."

          Not sure about that >_<

Real gamers play on proper portable consoles. I enjoyed much more pre the android iPhone era. Loved the DS lite and PSP and their titles and game depth so much better than in app purchase rubbish on smart phones

        • @neonlight:

Can you suggest any games that do justice composure to PSP games?

I can't, and it breaks my heart.

        • @inose:

To name some, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, Persona 3 Portable, LocoRoco, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Patapon, Monster Hunter, Ridge Racer. Theses are all classics better than iOS/Android games…

Some games are ported to smartphones eg. GTA: China wars

        • @neonlight:

Oops, sorry was writing with swipe on my phone…

I meant, can you give examples of games on the phone that are comparable to the psp games? Because I can't :(

          Psp games are awesome.

        • +1

          @inose:

Hhaha I agree with you I can't find anything that has the same depth as I said on phones…

          Might as well run emulators…

Only game that is close is Kingdom rush, but even that was dervied from the PC with Warcraft 3 on custom tower defense…

The whole gaming industry has changed. People want games that are easy to complete and developers keep making IAP games.

          I hate them.

I've gone back to PSP, even the PS Vita titles don't have much developments.

        • @neonlight:

I don't have much experience with Android games, but the majority sucked with touch controls.

I can recommend Star Wars KOTOR though. Brilliant ported game, with nice music and ok graphics, though an old classic.

I haven't found a good racing game though… God I hate touch controls, and IAP.

I've played the Room 2. Ok, but requires patience and is pretty lame when you think about it - stuck in a dark room, and do puzzles.

I wouldn't say vita was plagued by high pricing at all, it's regular price is in the same range of the 3DS and also been on sale several times for $200+game, yet vita has infinitely better hardware, not to mention it comes with a wall charger LOL! So when you factor in that the vita memory cards are expensive it still isn't overpriced compared to the 3DS because as a package you are paying more for better hardware are you not?

Obviously the sony memory cards were overpriced on purpose, knowing sony they are probably losing money on the vita considering it's hardware and it's low price, so they were looking to recoup costs with the memory cards, nothing wrong with that, makes sense from a sales stand point to have the console lower in price to be more tempting.

The display, analog stick and controls of the vita are so glorious to use, 3DS feels like junk in comparison. But the vita of course doesn't have enough games, imo it still has enough good games to buy it though, kinda like Wii U, only a handful of good games, but still worth buying.

      • Anecdotally, the memory card pricing was a pretty big deterrent for all of the gamers I know. Especially when there was an alternative which had a lot of the games they wanted to play (or were very confident would arrive) & backwards compatibility compared to a system which had no certain big-name titles coming to it. It doesn't make sense to create a proprietary card for your system when memory cards already exist. Hell, an obvious question might be why they didn't make models with in-built storage. Sony has a strange fixation for creating their own unique hardware like cards, discs and peripherals for years. It many instances it has cost them dearly.

If you like handheld gaming I too would encourage buying one, but I would wait for a great deal.

Extra Credits also did an interesting video mid last year about another aspect which might have hurt the Vita.

        • +1

Seriously, as a package the vita + 64gb memory card is roughly $50 more than the 3DS + 64gb memory card + ac adapter.

Games aside, if a gamer is put off by $50 for a superior console… They don't deserve one.

        • +1

          @TRANCE:

After several price reduction, you might be correct. That wasn't the initial price. It wasn't anywhere near that. It's a bad competitive move to be significantly over priced against your competitor on launch.

"Superior" is subjective. If you think superior hardware performance equals a better experience or has historically resulted in higher sales, you'd be wrong.

Telling consumers what they "deserve" is childish at the very least.

        • It is a more than $50 difference because the 3ds is always in bundles and going on sale whereas just finding a Vita by itself takes time and effort. Stores don't sell vita games anymore whereas new 3ds games are always in stock. Good luck finding a vita memory card bigger than 8gb anywhere other than ebay while you can get a micro sd basically anywhere. Better hardware means jack all when they have stopped giving it its own games and you are left with dodgy versions of better console games. 3ds is also a completely different market to the Vita. The only thing they do have in common is the fact that they are both handhelds.

        • @Juddy:

RRP of New 3DS XL is $249 + $19 AC adapter, RRP of Vita Slim is $269, they are the exact same price RRP. Only the memory card for the Vita is more expensive, for the 64gb around $50-$60 more if you buy at the cheapest place, but RRP is higher.

Both consoles have been on sale in the $180-$200 range, but the 3DS needs a $20 AC adapter, I personally got my Vita for $180 plus a game at Dicksmith.

I'll buy a 3DS next time it's $180 at target, mainly want it for KH 3D.

    • To this date I'm still holding onto my PSP 1000, and recently bought a psp 3000 on eBay.I love that console and I don't care about PS Vita at all, the only title that interest me P4G, but not worth the money just for one game, besides that I've played the original on ps2 with 250 hours game time I didn't see a point of picking it up for minor difference

  • +2

Absolutely brilliant little console. I don’t have a lot of time for gaming, so this system has more than enough content for the likes of me.

Phones don't offer an experience anywhere close to this so there's always room for a dedicated handheld.

Beautiful screen (I’ve got the OLED version), wonderful console-like experience. Was expensive on launch, but many here would have purchased, like me, for approx. $200 including a game (Killzone).

Not much of a selection in the HN sale, but can recommend KZ Mercenary and LBP.

  • +1

The PS Vita only got 5 mins of air time during the last Sony E3 conference. The future for the Vita looks bleak…

    • +1

5 mins? I didn't see the console get mentioned at all during the conference other than that chibi final fantasy game. A few ps vita games got about 15 seconds all together of gameplay shown during the closing though. Very sad the way Sony is treating it.

    • +1

I'm pretty sure the only new games it is going to get are just handheld versions of superior console games.

Has someone cracked custom firmware for this yet?

    • no

      if it was cracked

      Sales would increase…

Hacking/Modding scene is why the PSP was so much more popular

      • Indeed, that's one reason. But PSP library is the best… samewith NDS Lite.

3DS to me wasn't quite attractive.

        • PSP library was alright

Vita library could have potential to be better, because it has much better hardware..

But the reason I haven't bought a vita is cos it is not hacked yet.

          ===

I really loved the PSP hacking scene.

All those homebrew and emulators were really cool.

    • There have been some hacks to enable homebrew, but not PSP level.

Even if they did it, it will be a frustrating game of leapfrog where Sony will force you to update your firmware in order to play the latest games, and hackers will need to update the CFW. Once the hackers get lazy and decide they can't be arsed anymore, you're stuck with older firmware, can't play new games, can't access PSN, can't play multiplayer. Not worth the trouble.

      • What new games?

Have you seen the Sony E3?
They got no new vita games.

Seems like Vita is not a priority for them anymore..

        • Yeah because PS Vita will never reach the level of sales like PSP. Sony pretty much gave up on Vita.

Vita might just be the last gaming console. After all Nintendo did sign up something for releasing games on Smartphones…

Sony should thank the homebrew community, they actually promoted for Sony for free.

Sony had the opportunity pre-iTunes era.

They should have offered PSX emulation, a proper online shop for music/movies, more connectivity with PS3. Then released a smartphone capable of playing their titles with a single library that contains all your purchases from PSP, PSN etc and allow titles on PS3 purchased to have the portable versions for free.

They should even have a promotion or redemption program where if you have purchased a PS2 game, you could get discounts the same titles on PSN titles to keep their customers

All the Smartphone games would have went dead.

What a pity. They can then take on the concepts Vita and would have been a hell lot of user base

        • If that's the case, I wouldn't bother buying a Vita to begin with, homebrew or not.

        • @neonlight:

They should have offered PSX emulation

The Vita can already play PSX games via PSN.

Then released a smartphone capable of playing their titles with a single library that contains all your purchases from PSP, PSN etc and allow titles on PS3 purchased to have the portable versions for free.

You want to play these on a touch screen?

They released an Xperia Play years ago which was capable of playing PS1 games I think (?) and had proper controls. It didn't do well.

and allow titles on PS3 purchased to have the portable versions for free.

If you purchased a PS1 title on PS3, it's playable on your PSP and Vita already without repurchasing it.

They should even have a promotion or redemption program where if you have purchased a PS2 game, you could get discounts the same titles on PSN titles to keep their customers

You want them to port PS2 games over to smartphone/tablet? Even the Vita can't handle PS2 emulation. Either they have to port each title individually, or they would need to develop an emulator, neither of which are simple tasks. And then we'll be looking at game sizes much bigger than we're used to on mobile.

I'm not really sure if I understood you correctly. But the way PSN is set up now, PS1 titles are playable on PSP, PS3, and Vita, and you don't need to buy multiple versions of them.

PS2 classics are only playable on PS3 because they were ported over to PS3 only. They aren't running in emulation.

PSP titles are playable on Vita, without extra purchase.

Psp was so much better than the vita in my opinion.

So much better games, and so much more games… and so much cheaper too.

    • +1

      Price was about the same.

      Games need time.

    • Plus the homebrew, emulators

I still have my PSP with many fond memories…

      • Same. My psp is broken though… Charging port is faulty. Boohoo

  • postage kills the deal
