Depends on the route. On some routes they are very competitive.
I don't travel to the middle-east, africa or europe. That's probably why.
I mostly go to the pacific nations and asia and I can always find better deals by other airlines.Dubai is extremely out of the way if you're flying to Asia anyway…
I've used Emirates between Brisbane and Singapore, as has a number of others I know who travel the same route. They do have pretty good prices if/when on sale/special, which makes it a good deal for a full service airline. The only downside is the very odd hours on that route… 2:45am departure on the outbound leg, 12:45am arrival on the inbound.
Emirates (EK): pulled a leg in a code share flight last year, one month after we booked. Had the chance to use/book that that flight we ended up on, but decided to decline it, as it had a 6hr layover, so booked a more expensive one($380pp more)with short layovers. emails went back and forth for some sort of compensation to restore value we payed for.
Just did not happen, asked them for: refund the difference, upgrade for part of the flights, hotel stay for 1 or 2 nights, got zero.
On our outward journey asked to have a look upstairs A380, (even though we have flown upstairs a couple of times) was escorted up, and what a surprise, stacks of empty seats. so instead of keeping sweet with a customer at no cost, so it will be a long time before we will fly with them.It was not the first flight with EK
We have been on A380's many times so no it was not a novelty, but like the aircraft
I also decided to sent them an email to let them know we have booked other international flights since, but not with them. No response from EK or the travel agent - didn't expect one, just adding a little salt in the wound.
posting this to make paxes aware to the Emirates handling of disputes.
A friend that travels more than us at least 4+ times a year was also short changed by EK and boycott's them
Buyer beware!!!edit added "not"
If you pay for your Airline ticket with PayPal do you still qualify for the travel insurance? I have always wondered if you ever need to submit a claim can the CCard company deny the claim due to the PayPal payment even though the money was funded by the credit card.
You should probably ask your credit card company or their travel insurance provider, as it'll depend on their specific rules/eligibility criteria. With CBA for example, as of yesterday, there's no longer any spending requirement. You just need to (have the relevant CC, and) activate the travel insurance online. See link.
That's really helpful, thanks, I wasn't aware of this.
I asked Citibank ages ago and they said "Yes, if you can show that you paid with their credit card through PayPal then you will be covered". (I pay with Paypal for AirAsia to avoid the booking fee)
Love Emirates, but their fares are so over-inflated.
