We got contacted by a reporter from Sydney:
MEDIA REQUEST
A news organisation is on the lookout for Australia’s savviest rewards card
shopper. Perhaps you are loyal to just provider like Flybuys or you shop
around using different cards. We want to speak to someone who uses them
regularly and who does benefit as a result.
Or perhaps you are a shopper who gave up on these loyalty schemes after
discovering that whilst you may spend hundreds each month, the rewards are
too small to demand loyalty.
My 2 cents:
I don't think Flybuys or Everyday Rewards offers trump getting the best price for a product in the majority of cases. The one exception for loyalty cards is free Qantas & Velocity points especially AMEX CC offers. I'm no expert though so maybe others experiences may differ.
Well, if you want to get your mug on TV, then let me know and I'll pass on the reporters details. Maybe they'll let you wear an OzBargain t-shirt?
well, i think the standard ozb process must be as follows:
find item
a.if purchase is over $300, try and time purchase within 60 days of overseas trip to claim gst back
1.check stores as well as price comparison sites (static ice/shopbot)
2.check for store voucher/coupon codes with a quick google, or sites like retailmenot
3.check whether store has a referral code that gives you free credit
4.check if there are sites that split with you a commission (cashrewards/velocity etc.)
5.check if amex has a cashback for that store
6.check if store has a discount on gift cards, so you can double dip on discount codes if possible
7.pay for item with whatever method has lowest fees, and have a paypal account handy just in case there is a surcharge for cc, but not for paypal
8. use rewards card if possible
am i missing anything?
