Frank's Redhot Sauce 148ml $2.00 @ Coles

520

Was shopping Coles online earlier today and saw this on sale again!!!! Considering the popularity of the previous deal, I decided to post it just in case Ozbargainers are still looking to try it. RRP is $3.00 so there is an approximately 33% savings.

I have tried it during the previous deal, not a big fan of it. Nonetheless, a lot of Ozbargainers gave positive feedback. For those who hasn't tried, it is similar to Tabasco but thicker in texture, quite hot and more value for money comparatively.

Makes very nice spicy chicken wings.

Yep, taste like genuine Buffalo Wings

Bought some winglets last week and cooked them based on the (most simple) recipe on their website, best home made buffalo wings ever!

      • Frank's was supposedly the sauce used by the people who claim to have invented Buffalo wings, so that's why it tastes like genuine ones :-)

    • I agree, I used it to make buffalo wings sauce and it was brilliant. used nearly a whole bottle. I don't think I'd use it instead of tabasco but for wings definitely.

Nice! Thanks I have seen this but not on sale before. Since Tabasco is permanently expensive these days I'll give it a go.

I got a bunch of the other bottles (tabasco alternative) from Woolies during their sale a while back. The same sauce Mad Mex uses, can't think of the name. It's nice but extra variety would be nice :)

      • That's the stuff yeah :)

I got another 10 bottles remaining but I rip through the stuff pretty quickly.

        • +3

It probably rips through you just as quickly the next day..

getting twice the value out of it

          Sure am!

It's a good thing we have 2 bathrooms in this house…

There are also subtle differences in the highlights - a delicate hint of Ruapehu, followed by a blast of Vesuvius, a smokey hint of Ash Wednesday followed by a dying echo of Port Augusta's number 1 furnace.
I'll leave it to a braver soul to comment on the nose.

    • Bloody Mary?!! It sounds like you're talking about Listerine.

I picked this up for the first time in the last OzBargain thread. With the exception of maybe Sriracha, Frank's has proven to be my favorite go-to sauce. It's tasty and flexible (though temper your Scoville expectations, as it's quite mild).

Goes fantastic with scrambled eggs and a dollop of sour cream.

      Not Tabasco? You heathen!

Thanks Op, I have a few in my cupboard but will stock-up on more!

  • A bit early for the nye.

  • I'm a chilli chicken and I can tolerate this heat so would say its pretty mild.

    • yeah its not really hot at all

      hell, kids eat it

      You're a what?!

      • He's got a chicken/pork identity crisis.

        • Now you're giving me a gender crisis too?

  • I would barely call it hot, but it is tasty!
I tried it for the first time in the last sale.

I like a good squirt of Frank's sauce

    This is nice.
I grabbed some yesterday when I spotted it at Coles.
It was brought to my attention a week or two ago in here and really happy it was.
Love it on poached eggs on toast with cracked pepper, salt and some grated cheese.

Not the sort of hot sauce to add to stews in my opinion, theres hotter and better options for that, but great as a straight on served food go to.
Cheese on toast springs to mind or jazz up some instant noodles.

  • i put that shit on everything!

    • Seriously?!

    • +1

You must be a regular Poocasso.

  • super spicy wings with a blue cheese sauce

    brilliant

    • this reminding me of the time i went to dublin and a restaurant called Elephant and Castle
      has anyone been?

damm everyone goes there for the chicken wings! its the best i've ever had even beats the states!
anyway i asked my irish work mate when i was working at london for the receipe and it included frank hot sauce so i'm going to try that out lol

  • is it hotter than nandos' extra hot sauce? or at least same heat?

    • +3

      Nando's is hotter.

    • There is a Frank's Extra Hot version which is hard to find but that one is of similar hotness to Nandos Extra Hot.

  • how much would I need to marinate about 2 kgs of wings? an entire bottle?

    • +2

Yep, 1/2 a bottle per kg sounds right

  • Alright to give to kids for swearing? Hot enough?

    • (Heinz) ABC hot sauce is hotter and cheaper - but doesn't taste nearly as good.

  • Who knows of the best / most trustworthy / reasonably priced supplier of good varied Hot Sauces online?

Is Ebay my best bet? Looking to get some Louisiana, Melinda's, Marie Sharps, El Yucateco, etc.

  • As others have pointed out, it isn't really hot but it is very nice. I bought 4 bottles last time, I think I will have to stock up again this time.
