Where to Buy Bath Salts / Soaps

Hi all,

Wondering if anyone had good ideas for where to buy some nice Bath Salts? I'm looking for something indulgent and/or nice-smelling, but also as economical as possible.

A friend really loves them, and I bought them on sale for her at Priceline once - but now I can only see a Radox one at Priceline (which doesn't look very special).
Also checked out Myer & DJs with not much luck (well, a search for 'bath salts' at Myer led to 1,000+ results for vaguely-related items…)

We're in the Sydney Inner West region, so anything around here would be amazing. Also happy to order online.

Thanks in advance!

I've bought magnesium sulphate (aka Epsom salts) from the local Ag. suppliers (mine was Norco), they sell by the kilo and is really cheap. Just add some essential oil and relax!!

    • Thanks! Does this create bubbles by any chance?

I have started making my own bath soaks, and its really easy.

There is a product called Lectric soda in the laundry isle (sodium carbonate). As long as your skin is not super sensitive you can use it in a bath.

google some recipes, but its dead easy to make a milk bath with powdered milk, dried rose petals, some sort of bath salt and a fragrance. Its cheap as too.

    • Hi Natt, thanks for your info! You mentioned you still need to add a "bath salt" - is that just like a basic epsom salt? Does your own bath soak recipe create bubbles?

      • No bubbles sorry. but i reckon adding soap flakes or similar would be fine.

"salt" means anything you might normaly add, such as epsom, baking soda, washing soda etc, anything to help soothe muscle aches

A good basic recipe is http://www.popsugar.com/smart-living/Homemade-Rose-Petal-Bat…

And you can use other petals, just make sure they are not sprayed or poisonous. Apple blossom for example are lovely!

        • Lovely recipe - thanks Natt! Will pass on to my friend.

  • Iherb have some pretty cheap bath salts that look decently fancy. Also I know this isn't a bath salt but it looks really cool from the body shop
Also Lush have some nice bath bombs that make the bath a bit fizzy, although they're quite pricey so wouldn't recommend frequent use

Hi, thanks for the Body Shop recommendation - just checked out their page and found some good Milk Baths etc, that actually foam and/or fizz up!

I do love Lush, but like you said it can't be a regular thing.

Target used to have those Bath Bomb things that Lush have - saw them around at Christmas time.

Or why not try these - 10 for $12

looks like the sell others, some free post.

        I just searched ebay http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/Bath-Bombs-Fizzies-/72759/i.html

        • AHHH Perfect! There's heaps there. That sounds a lot easier / better idea. :)

        • @kyttiekat:
glad I helped. searched for bath bombs

lots of people sell them it seems. You could always giftwrap them later if you need/want.

        • @PVA: Any idea if the bath bombs contain Epsom Salts by any chance? My friend was after something for her sore muscles. I've sent the question to the seller anyhow.

          Will definitely gift-wrap.

          Thanks again!

        • @kyttiekat:

They say … Our bath bombs are moisturizing due to the high volume of butters used
          Contains Bicarb Soda,Citric Acid,Coconut Oil,Epsom salts
Organic Shea Butter,Fragrance & Essential Oils

but there are also other sellers as well.

I haven't bought any though, only ever bought from Lush.

        • @PVA: Oh. What the. I swear I read that description, and didn't see Epsom salts listed! <blind>

Thanks once again. :) Looks like the best bet so far. They also sell bath soaks in jar form, which may be even more economical.

        • @kyttiekat:
I must have looked at another "flavour" sorry , they dont mention Epsom in the strawberry ones.

actually reading the strawberry ones , they say Mini size !

        • @PVA: Hm yeah they seem to vary! Odd.

  • oh and if you want a scent cheaply, take a look at vanilla essence you might have already. If its decent quality you can use that

    • Thanks, good idea!

  • Actually - does anyone know if they sell pre-made scented bath salts anywhere? I can find "Epsom Salts" on their own, or the ingredients to make your own scented one (like a rose scented epsom salt bath), but no pre-made ones.

I did find some pre-made bath salt / soaks (with Epsom salts, which we want) in them on ebay, but they had crazy $10+ shipping which is too much. :(

Thoughts? Any little stores or markets or something?

    • Hey I'm not sure if your local one will have it but I was at my local Aldi yesterday and saw prescented bath salts. It looks like it was in an older catalogue but still had heaps of stock in store. This is a link to the product itself. It was 7.99 for 600 grams, I didn't pay attention to see if it had been discounted since it's an older catalogue product

  • It depends on what you are looking for, if you are looking for natural handmade soaps with lots of natural products and no palm oil, then you could try us we stock bath bombs and such. But if you are looking for run of the mill soap or bath bombs then you could try ebay or a soap store in your area, a quick google search should do the trick. :)
