Canada Trip Ideas Vancouver to Toronto

Hey guys,

I'm deciding on going on a family trip (3 adults) to Canada. I have family in Toronto so would spend about 4 days visiting people and family. After that I'd like to spend 3 days in Montreal and then visit Vancouver for 3 days.

I have about 14-15 days to spend in Canada.

I was wondering if anyone else has done these and what the best way to go about this would be. (i.e. book flights to toronto and back now and then sort out further flights/ trips in canada or to do this now).

Also any other suggestions and tips about a Canada trip.

I would love to hire a Car and do some driving.

  • What a coincidence! We re thinking about trip to Canada as well, so I was going to write similar forum topic in here to ask for some advise.

Have you checked train option? There is a train from Toronto to Vancouver (and backwards) but not sure if it stops in Montreal, you can check http://www.viarail.ca for travel dates and times.

Are you planning to do it in coming winter or autumn? Just wondering if you have winter driving experience cause it is different.

I was checking budget flights to Toronto, Calgary or Vancouver in December but they are quite pricey committed to what we sometimes can get with jetstar, so maybe someone can advise this bit.

    • thanks! train is something to consider

I think it may be an idea for trip to Montreal but the train to Vancouver is over 3 days!

I was thinking of traveling in August.

Off peak prices to Roronto are around $1500pp from what I could find (with Delta airlines). Other airlines Qantas, Cathaypacific are around 2400pp

  • (never mind)

  • Going to Toronto in December with my wife for a month. I paid $1850 for each ticket with Cathay Pacific with a stopover in Hong Kong for 5 days when returning from Toronto.

    Good luck with everything.

    • nice deal. you must have booked that in advance. cathay pacific is now >$2500pp

  • Some of it depends on the time of year you are planning. Take a Rocky Mountaineer ride to Whistler. Magnificent scenery, and a lot cheaper than the full ride through the Rockies which can get tedious if that's not your thing. Drive through the Rockies, from Sept onwards through Golden, up the Icefields Parkway, Banff and Lake Louise plus plus plus to Calgary. On the train you are limited. On the road, go everywhere. At the other end, add beautiful Quebec and Niagara, and cover it all with train and/or bus.
Vancouver is gorgeous, fantastic tourist destination for transport and places, and a visit to Victoria is worth the boat trip alone.
Perhaps even think about flying to New York, and driving up the coast to Quebec, depending on what you can get. Return from Vancouver.
For driving on the right, a bit of practice in some back streets, and off you go with care.
No idea of how the costs would stack up, but this adds so many extra places with no backtrscking, and will fit in 15 days
