just changed to

Super Fast Heavy /160GB $69.99 160GB3(80GB+80GB) 512K/512K

• +2

1M shape is very attractive, but I am with Exetel, hope exetel could raise some plans similar.

• +1

I'm with exetel too. I rely on their other services too much to change, though $50 for 60GB+60GB is very tempting.

Hopefully they'll try to match this in some way.

edit: I can't find any info on TPG about line rental being included, so I'm guessing you need to organise your own line rental. Not as attractive to me then.

• +1

u can have either naked that include the line rental and voip. or you can have telstra budget line that cost u $21/ month and connect with other
voip company for your phone calls.

• +2

I am also with exetel, and im fairly happy.
I used to be with tpg, i find exetel to be more reliable.
Also tpg's "offpeak" hours are only 6 hours, while exetel has a 12 hour offpeak period. I would imagine it would be difficult to use 60 gb of data with a small window like that.

The capped data rates are nice however, i wish more isps would raise their speed caps.

• god, this is CRAZY!!

I swear I was checking TPG plan this morning and it was still the OLD pricing & plans, now they just changed it. (anyone see the advertising bar above TPG page still $49.99=50GB+50GB? not the new 60GB+60GB!! they can't even keep up themself) :D

• Haha, yeah… they only announced them about an hour ago (http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1339654) so I guess not everything has been updated yet. :P

• naked ADSL2+ are still not updated :-)

• Yeah, they haven't updated the site, but the plans I listed are going up later I think. iT was mentioned in that Whirlpool topic :)

• Bus companies around the country are still waiting for the glue to dry on the last set of ad updates!

• man i just changed from the old 40GB+110GB plan to the new 70GB+80GB not long ago :S now they have 80GB+80GB plan WITH 512KB when capped :S hopefully i can change to the new one without getting charged :S

• +4

Yeah I changed from an old plan (35GB+40GB I think?) to 50GB+50GB about a week ago. Now they have 60GB+60GB.

• If you're changing to a plan that's the same cost as your current one, there's no charge for changing.
• If you're changing to a lower cost plan and you're still in your initial contract, it's $59.
• If you're changing to a lower cost plan and you're not in a contract any more, you can downgrade once for free every 6 months. Any subsequent downgrade costs $90.

So if the new one is the same price, changing to it is free :)

• ooo thanks for clarifying that :D time to change :D

• I am in the EXACT same situation as you. I called this morning to get the new plan and it was activated around 2 hours later.

• This is the exact reason why I tell people not to go with AAPT or Exetel when choosing a value ISP.

TPG FTW :)

• +3

no way. TPG customer service is excellent. you even get better (and faster) service if you contact them via email

• i got one case before with tpg, their technician applogize with me, explain to me clearly why the problem happen to me.
the main issue with me still with dropping issue, but i guess this is wiring issue in my building as i lived in the unit.

• don't agree, TPG customer support is EXCELLENT

I've been with optus + telstra

• Customer for 4 years, no problems. You are just a nub

• cheap prices mean cut backs have to be made - if you don't like it, go to another company, or buy a $99 wireless pre-paid kit, so you're covered in case of emergency - still cheaper than telstra!

• +3

"still cheaper than telstra"
Who the hell isn't.

• @PainToad: I meant having both the tpg and the wireless backup is cheaper than telstra, but point taken :P

• Acutally I just rang them up. Got connected in less than 1 min. The support was helpful and did everything I requested.

• +7

it must cost them a fortune to keep replacing their bill boards and radio ads all the time

• don't worry, this is marketing campaign, same when u go for fishing, without proper bait, you won't get big fish.
their operating cost is low compare than their competitor. if they have sucessfylly bought PIPE in the next couple of week, you can get cheaper price than now. check their share price.

• Hahaha, yeah, I was thinking about that xD

• -2

I upgrade to the 50+50 for $50 end of October. But another 10+10 for nothing is always good.

Of course this way, they keep you renewing your contract term so your contract never runs out.

• So what do you do if you want a home line bundle? Would you look at getting one separately or would you look to another broadband deal?

I'm about to get out of the Virgin home phone / broadband deal but I'm not sure what is the best value when you include a home phone…

• Glad all plans are now static IP's awesome work tpg

• is there a proper way to check how long you have been in your contract….

ive change before to a plan of the same price before(ie no costs)
but now i want to downgrade but im not sure if the $59 will be made up inn savings or not

EDIT: or even how to check what my current contract details are?

• check your Account Statement Last Financial Year and see what date was your first payment

• +1

So if I got the $49.99 normal ADSL2+ plan, would I then have to pay more on top of that for line rental?

• +1

Yeah, you still need a phone line on normal ADSL2+. If you want something without a phone line, you want "naked ADSL". Their site hasn't been updated for the new naked ADSL plans yet, but I've listed them at the top of this page.

• +1

Yes, you need to have a connected phone line first before you can get ADSL2+. If you don't want a phone line, you'll have to go with the Naked ADSL plans.

• you can have telstra home line budget for montly $21

• So I could get a phone plan with any other company, and I'd be able to get the $49.99 normal ADSL2+ plan?

• Of-course, jeezzzz, I guess your how Telstra makes money.

• @PainToad: …and don't forget every other service provider that they lease to. They ONLY have the largest telecommunication infrastructure in Australia ;)

• Yeah. All the other phone companies resell Telstra phone lines (with the exception of Optus, and whoever resell Optus I guess). You can get ADSL2+ if you have a phone line with any company that resells Telstra.

• Home line budget has restrictions; I forget what exactly they were.

Something along the lines of you cannot have budget with certain types of internet plans … you'd want to check it out before getting your Internet plan :)

• Yeah Telstra have changed their conditions for that budget line in that you can't have any other internet other than theirs on that plan.

• @Rumbaar: the trick is call them with home line complete, if u don't use a lot, then u rang them again tell them u want switch with home line budget, then it will done for you.
telstra retail and wholesale can not share their information.
your information about internet connection with other company held at telstra wholesale.
your phone line is retail.

• @Rumbaar: Really? wow….i'd heard they restricted the budget line to low income people, because they don't make money off it (well atleast that's what their spokesman said at the time)

I managed to get the Home Budget line about a week before that announcement. lucky i guess…my phone line also falls under the old rules where you CAN have internet from other providers.

• @abchakraborty: so now telstra become a finance company? they need to check your income? bs right?
they can ask your income, you can make up ur income only 20k right? so whats the big deal.

• @dragonrabit: I think you have to prove you are low income using some kind of government benefits card. like a pensioner card or show that you're getting centrelink assistance…something like that.

• @dragonrabit: Or they do a credit check before you sign a contract with them..

• It appears to be trivially simple to get around - I have several friends who have had no problem getting a homeline budget line and third-party ADSL, though naked ADSL would be a serious option nowadays - you still need to sign up for a phone line, but you then cancel it… save you a bit over $11 a month on the homeline budget costing (naked adsl from TPG is $10 more than non-naked but you have no phone line rental costs). Then use VoIP for your phone.

• +1

Wow, time to upgrade (still on the old 50GB Medium)!

• Aww again with leaving the poor ADSL plans alone.

Being on a sub-exchange sux.

• -1

Is this an ad for TPG?

• +1

Nope, I'm just a happy user and thought I'd point out the plan changes to anyone that doesn't check either Whirlpool or the TPG site often.

• -1

I don't like the shaping policy that they have.
if you reach 60gb (peak or off-peak), then you're shaped for the rest of the month. This feels almost like TPG is trying to cheat me.

where as with Primus, if you use up your peak or off-peak, you are only shaped while in that peroid. your other hours will still be at full speed.
for example, if their monthly download offer is 100gb a month, then I can be sure I will get 100gb out of it.
now that would represent value for money for me.

PS: I do like everything else about this new TPG plan. I think it's great. I have voted positive.

• +2

it clearly says "for the period usage quota has exceeded" …
what's not to understand ?

• +2

Personally I think the 512 shaped speed makes up for that, it's not like you're internet will slow down to a pretty much useless crawl like it does with 56

• +1

better than paying $150 per Gb…

• +1

superkieu………its the same as previous…nothing has changed

if you go over your peak limit, your PEAK period will be shaped till the end of your billing cycle.
Your off peak wont be shaped

and vice versa!!

• +1

With TPG, you're only shaped in the period you exceeded the usage for. The other hours will be full-speed, same as the Primus plan.

• +1

For all of those with TPG, how is the actual service? Is there minimal downtime and generally good speeds? I'm with Netspace atm but these plans are excellent value if the service is good. I know in the past TPG and other 'cheaper' ISP's have had speed and up time problems but maybe it's all good nowadays?

• +1

TPG is one of the best value ISP out there. Speed will depend in your location/exchange
But I can blindly state you're definitely losing more with Netspace !!

• +1

Its okay, random drop outs for me doesnt last long just restart modem and done (could be just my modem :S)
tpg.com.au/maps/ check here for your closest node and see what speeds you will get

• +1

I'm about 2 km from the phone exchange, and on a pretty horrible phone line (only got around 32 Kb/s with 56 Kb/s dialup). I still get about 7000 Kb/s with my TPG ADSL2+, and it vary rarely drops out. They've improved a lot in the past few years :)

As duph123 mentioned, you can go to http://tpg.com.au/maps/, type in your address, and see what speeds TPG users in your area are getting (the data on their is live data from TPG customers)

• I am with TPG and my internet down time was approximately 50% last month. Complete nightmare. I had to buy a 3g wireless broadband to compensate for the downtimes.

• +3

This is what I'm worried about..although I guess all ISP's have their horror stories. I'm connected to the TALLY HO exchange, about 1.5km from the exchange and get around 11000Kb/s.

A couple of years ago there was a massive revolt when one of the cheap ISP's brought out killer plans and then everyone who jumped on had terrible service with constant drop outs etc.

• obviously it was the problem caused by your equipments, i have been using TPG for 2 years without any problems.

• +7

Yeah obviously. Because youre connection being solid means every other persons on every other exchange is the same. Give me a break. Maybe it was his connection, maybe it was TPG's fault or maybe it was an issue with the line elsewhere. You aren't in a position to know so whats the point in blindly making it out to be a user error.

• -2

The point is, it's not TPG's problem - or to be more specific, it's not a problem unique to TPG, it is a problem unique to that user. Saying that someone's internet has been down 50% of a month could indicate a problem with TPG support perhaps, but seeing as no large group of TPG users internet was down for 50% of that month, it is not an indication of the quality of the TPG network. There is no point voting down bargain pricing because of a one-off issue most likely unrelated to the network.

• +1

@thei: It may be a problem between the keyboard and chair, yes. It may be a problem with his hardware in particular, it also might be a problem with the DSLAM and everyone around him was also affected. shawnsor is more qualified to be stating where this issue was than any of you are (who know absolutely 0 about the issue), which is what Smigt is trying to say.

It would be nice if shawnsor could elaborate. Exactly what was your experience? How long have you been with TPG, and did this suddenly start occurring as of last month? Did you check your filters? What sort of noise/attenuation are you getting on the line? How did you go about contacting TPG and why were they so useless in resolving your issue?

These are all pertinent questions, which would definitely be nice for potential new sign-ups to know. Just because the service works for you, that doesn't negate that it may not be flawless for someone else on a completely different exchange. Don't be naive and assume otherwise.

• @pais: My point was… The TPG network is not faulty, as evidenced by all the people (such as me) who have non-faulty TPG internet. While a specific customer may have a problem, this does not mean any other customer will have a problem, and is not specific to TPG, therefore should not be seen as a negative thing in this thread.

A lack of support in having the problem fixed could, however, be seen as a negative thing against TPG - though in most cases it is the customer's hardware or physical phone line, both of which are outside of TPG's control.

• @thei: Your internet working fine does not mean everyone else's is working fine. I don't see what reasoning you're even following here — you're more than likely on different DSLAMs, and therefore it's POSSIBLE for it to be a TPG problem which you are so quick to dismiss.

The "network" may be fine, but 1% of the "network" (i.e. one DSLAM/exchange) can have issues. This mean it is TPG's issue.

Again, my point is merely not to dismiss something you read as an issue between the computer and chair when you evidently don't know anything about it.

• +2

TPG are not like Internode Support. If you need good phone support, go with someone else.

You most likely have a dodgy modem/line filter.

If you just accept that its dodgy and don't do anything about it then you can't come on the internet and complain.

• Get that fixed. How do u put up with that? thats a bit excessive

U tried giving them a call? if you're experiencing that sort of down time, i doubt they would be objecting to you stopping your service.

• +2

Just because you don't like the product doesn't mean this isn't a good deal and bargain. Do you negative rate DVD deals when you don't like the movie? TPG are amazing, I've never had any problems at all. By far the best ISP in Australia to date.

• I have been with TPG for 2 years. I think the type of modem/router you have is very important for internet stability. I used to use a Linksys modem and I would have drop outs every few days. 6 months ago I changed to a Netgear modem and have not had a single drop out since.

• i love it

• +4

Looks good, but I was with TPG, and my experience was that you get what you pay for.

iiNet has lower quotas but higher speed, lower pings, more uptime and customer service.

• +1

Well in my case, for the last 4 years i am getting good quota, high speed, lower pings, more uptime and customer service, for lower than any other company

• I'm thinking of ringing IINet and asking for a offer match citing moving to TPG, anyone tried this?

• +1

They wouldnt do that lol

• I asked them previously and they said they won't match it. I did send them an email last week about if they have plans on modifying their plans to keep in touch with TPG / Iprimus, got a reply and they said they are currently looking into this and will update the plans in the next few weeks.

• @naira: Hmm, will keep a lookout then, nice to know thanks naira

• +1

@nani: mate, remember internet company is not like restaurant. you can ask more spicy, salty etc. they got fixed product. so if u don't like, move to other isp

• @dragonrabit: Agree with this. Looks to me like TPG is taking a clear lead over iiNet and everyone else as the best-value ISP. The best way to encourage that is to sign up with them.

• +2

I'll be angry if they don't also increase the Bundled Naked ADSL2+ Plans with VoIP. Still a positive from me.

• +1

Yeah their VoIP plans don't seem to be too good in terms of value. My mum's with TPG and she uses PennyTel VoIP

• +1

Again….its keep getting better….

• +2

Merry Christmas TPG, and to Everyone. HO! HO! HO!

• +1

awesome.. just in time for a new connection.

• +2

I find TPG pretty good. The connection seems to drop out quite a lot and there customer service is only average. But the price is good.

• +1

haha; I joined in August… in 4 mths, I've gone from 55GB to 120GB without paying anything extra

• DODO have just changed their plans too!!!!!!!!!!!! …not sure if good deal but i am stuck with them so may change plan i'm on …have to have homeph with them i think

• what is your experience with Dodo? good bad?

• -5

Why was my comment deleted? Censorship?

• OHS…

• +3

The "LOL @ TPG FTW" one? It's still there, but has been voted down, so is probably hidden. Tick the " Show all hidden comments" box.

• +1

can someone help me. I am with TPG and can only get about 200kbps MAX, usually 180kbps.
Looking at their map, I should be getting about 6000kbps!!!!!

• +1

have you called them ?
