Nikon D3300 SLK DSLR for $475.20 & $50 CB, D5200 $548.02 & $100 CB, D3200 $311.25 @ Dick Smith/Bing Lee/The Good Guys eBay

C20EXTRA

I've been on the hunt for a budget DSLR camera to take travelling with Full HD 60fps video and this is definitely the only one under $500. It has decent reviews and seems like a good all round camera for beginners. It comes with a 15-55mm lens.

The D3300 camera is $594 from the Dick Smith store, $475.20 after the $20% code, $465.70 after 2% cash rewards, and then it's $415.70 after this $50 Nikon cashback promotion

Another option is the D5200 SLK from Bing Lee (slightly better photos but bulkier) for $448.02 after a $100 cashback - Cheapest ever for Australian stock;

The D3200 SLK for $311.25 from The Good Guys with no cashback option (the D3300 is more compact and is a better camera overall, probably worth the extra $100 in my opinion). If you want a basic camera that has Full HD (30FPS), takes decent photos and the size doesn't bother you, then this is a very cheap option, IMO better than the $300 Big W D3100 deal in January.

*SLK = Single Lens Kit

*CB = Cashback

*** Also, don't forget the 10% GST Tourist Refund Scheme if you're leaving the country in the next 60 days (would make it $368.18 for the D3300, the D5200 $393.10, the D3200 $279.49 and the D5500 $532.90)

**** Kogan is NOT eligible for the cashback

  • Do we still receive a $50 voucher with a cart greater than $200?

    • I don't know if eBay will pay out the $50 voucher in conjunction with the C20EXTRA code, but it would be a nice surprise if they sent one!

      • +1

Don't see why not. I'll just be grateful for the 20%. Picked up a few things i've been wanting for a while.

        • The $50 voucher for $200+ spend expired on the 25th. So I would say no you wont get the voucher.

        • @JmanNick: Yeah. I didn't get a voucher. I bought $60 worth of "want" items not "need". 64gb USB and a 32gb Micro SD won't kill my wallet.

  • Any deals for D5500 or D7100 (preferably with 18-140mm or there about lens)?

      • Thanks, Yea I looked at that one, but I think its an import, but the price is great……

    • If you want ZOOM, the 18-200 is a great lens. Ken did a great review here,
      http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/18200.htm

Yes, I own this lens and while it can be a little soft, slow and heavy, you get some great shots you otherwise wouldn't with less zoom. We had a koala outside of our house yesterday and I got some great shots using the 18-200 lens !!

      • How much and where did you the lens?

      • I ended up getting a 55-200mm lens for zoom photography and videos, only $180 with the 20% code from the good guys

  • how can you get the D5500 for $532.90 + GST, its not body only is it?

    • Sorry it was an error - there is a $100 cashback for the 5500, but The Good Guys isn't included in the participating stores :( otherwise it would be a steal

  • The cheaper Nikons are a false economy D3100 to the D5500, because they don't have a internal autofocusing motor. Your stuck with G lens (less lens choices)
D7000, D7100 or D7200 would cost you less in the long run.

    I don't know why DSE don't stock the D7100 and D7200s.

  • the 5200 has the flip out and tilt viewer so you can do selfies or shoot at low levels or angles, the 3200 and 3300 don't and that seems to be why the 5200 is a bit bulkier. I own a canon d700 but at these prices it might be chance to try Nikon that 5200 is tempting. no motor in body….. might cost more per lens but all means if motor fails you don't need to get the whole camera fixed canon have had motor in lenses since day one of auto focus.

  • Can anyone confirm the promotional period for the Nikon DSLR cashback reward?
I read somewhere saying it's only for April but that could be an old promotion.
The current T&C doesn't even specify:
    https://promotions.mynikonlife.com.au/DslrCashback/Terms

    • It looks like as long as you purchase the item before the end of July you can claim the cashback

  • Thank's Gozzhogger, I hope :P

I just got my self a D3300 from DSE, it was about $20 more than Kogan but hopefully the Nikon cashback reward works for eBay purchases, in which case I'll get the $50 CB. If it doesn't work at least I didn't have to wait for it to come from Hong Kong and if I have any warranty issues it should be less painful than with Kogan.

    • Yes the $50 cash back will work - when I picked up my camera it came with a regular dick smith receipt

  • Does Dick's item description mention the 15-55mm lens? I can't find it.

    • Yes it comes with the 15-55mm lens, I can confirm since I bought one with this lens. It's very small when 'collapsed' making it perfect for travel

      • Thanks, going to get this + Nikon 50mm f/1.8G from Kogan.

  • does anybody know the turn around time typically on the DSE click and collect? went with the D3300 pickup in Sydney CBD.

    • Was only a couple of hours for me. Depends how bust they are I guess!

      • oh right.. well i'm sitting at about 24 hours, so hopefully it's some time today! thanks
