[Expired] How to Get Free Netflix (NSW/ACT Only)

As you all should know by now you can buy the cheap Optus phones/usb or wifi modems and get 3 months with each sim card activated.
But what do you do with the device which you only bought for the netflix you could try and sell them on ebay or gumtree and struggle to get your money back or you could do what i did.

The Optus free netfix offer ends pretty soon so if you wish to do this then do it fast.

Here is what i did to get free netflix, you have to have a spare device to use the activated optus sim cards in to receive the sms with netflix code.

  1. Buy either Optus Huawei E3351 3G USB Modem or Optus ZTE F286 Pre-Paid Mobile Phone from Officeworks or another store only if it's the same price as officeworks.

  2. Remove optus sim card from packageing which can be done for both without opening the sealed box at all.

  3. Take the devices to your local CEX Store where they can be sold for cash E3351 for $15 cash and the ZTE F286 for $16 cash
They do test the devices which take between 30 min - 1 hour depending on how busy the store is.

  4. Activate the Optus sim cards and placeing them in your spare device (I used some spare mobile phones) and wait for the sms with netflix codes.

Note: Prices at CEX prices changes regularly and are current as of posting this.

Note: CEX do accept multiple of one item i sold 4 of the E3351 modem to them yesterday as the price i noted above.

  • Thanks for the heads up.

Lets say if I get 3 of these sim cards, do I need to activate them straight away? or can I just use one for 3 months and then activate the second one? - which would give me 9 months free for 3 sim cards.

      1. Yes you do have to activate them all straight away as the netflix offer ends on the 5th july.

      2. Dont worry as the netflix codes stack so you can input multiple codes into one netflix account. i currently have 18 months on my netflix account and waiting for another two codes atm.

      • Nice. Thanks !

      • How long do people typically wait for codes? It's been almost a week for me and still haven't received anything.

        • everytime for me it's been 2 days from the time of activation.

        • Same, I activated 3 x sims from mobile phone purchases last Saturday over the phone and haven't received the codes. Whereas, folks renewed broadband contract and the email took couple of days.

          @marquise:

Just after you wrote that I received mine.

        • @neil: LOL I just received my codes too! At least on one sim, going to check others now!

        How do you check this?

I looked in "My Account", but can't find any history of redeemed vouchers and when I view my billing details it shows that I'm still on the 30 day trial and displays this message "You are currently in a special program and will not be charged."

        • I think they show up after your trial is finished.

you dont want netflix, it will ruin your life.

  • Good tips. Thank you.

  • So you must activate the Optus device SIM by 5 July because that is when the offer ends. But can apply the code sent to you by SMS from Optus anytime to your Netflix? This does not have to be done by 5 July, does it?

EDIT: NVM, all vouchers expire 30 Sep. according to https://www.optus.com.au/shop/promotions/netflix-subscription-offer

This actually works with CEX, I had 4 ZTE F286's and sold them to CEX for $16 each, took only 1 hour for them to run the tests. However, be cautious that if you do bring in more than 3 of the same devices they are likely to suspect something, they asked me for the receipt as proof of purchase which i did have but did not want to provide because I bought the phones at only $15 each from Officeworks (meaning it shows that i'm making profit off them). So if you do try to sell them try to only sell 3 at a time :)
Sold at the parramatta westfields store, they have no contact number so you actually have to go into store for details.

I've had nothing but terrible experience from them at Parramatta. I go to either Mt druitt or nepean ones.

I'd report them if I was you as you certainly do not need a receipt.
They have contact emails on their website.

I had 17 e3351 broadband usb devices that I bought at officeworks for $14.50 each. I also bought 7 zte f286 phones for $15 each from officeworks. Basically I bought all the remaining stock of these 2 items in officeworks SA.

I then took all 24 sim cards and activated each one to claim my 3 months of free netflix each. That's 6 years of netflix.

I then used CeX replied paid service to send all 24 devices from SA to NSW to get $16 each for the phones, and $15 each for the broadband sticks.

They just credited me $367 into my paypal account.
Total cost of 24 devices from officeworks $351.50

The $15.50 paid for the fuel it took to go to the 6 or so officeworks stores last week.

Total amount saved not paying for netflix for the next 6 years, $864 :)

    • Got to be happy with the good news story………!!
